Position Summary:

The Pharmacist - Infectious Disease Specialty optimizes antimicrobial therapy to improve patient outcomes, reduce resistance, and enhance healthcare quality. Co-leading the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Program for Bozeman Health, they ensure appropriate antimicrobial use through clinical support, compliance monitoring, and provider education. Key responsibilities include developing evidence-based protocols, reviewing medications, analyzing utilization data, and advising on dosage, interactions, and adverse effects. By collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, this role enhances patient safety, supports quality improvement, and ensures regulatory compliance, strengthening Bozeman Health's infectious disease management efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy.
  • Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency or two (2) years equivalent experience.
  • Current licensure as a Pharmacist in Montana or eligible to obtain upon hire.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, or ability to complete within orientation period.
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS, or ability to complete within orientation period.
  • Pharmacy board certification in area of specialty within two (2) years of hire.
  • Preceptor experience with pharmacy students and residents.


Preferred:
  • PGY2 in area of specialty or three (3) years' experience in specialty.
  • Pharmacy board certification in area of specialty.


Essential Job Functions:

In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
  • Co-lead the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) task force to promote optimal antimicrobial use.
  • Conduct daily rounds and review patients in the area of specialty to ensure appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
  • Oversee antimicrobial stewardship regulatory reporting, including the management of electronic health record dashboards.
  • Participate in assigned committees to align stewardship efforts with infection control practices.
  • Perform antimicrobial formulary reviews to ensure the availability of effective and safe antimicrobials.
  • Design and implement stewardship projects aimed at improving antimicrobial use and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with appropriate interdisciplinary team and physicians to review and update the antibiogram.
  • Evaluate and verify physicians' orders for therapeutic appropriateness, dosing accuracy, drug interactions, allergies, administration routes, and potential redundancies, clarifying orders when necessary.
  • Provide patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to medical and nursing teams.
  • Document clinical interventions and recommendations using current methods to maintain accurate records.
  • Coordinate medication ordering, preparation, dispensing, and administration processes as needed to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and present educational programs for interdisciplinary teams to enhance knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Support and precept pharmacy residents and students to foster professional development in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy.

Schedule Requirements
  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.
