Position Summary: The Nurse Director of Clinical Services oversees patient flow and team coordination for patient visits and ensures high quality of care for patients following the guidelines of the Patient Centered Medical Home model and/or Birth Center model as applicable. This individual will also collaborate with Director of Health Operations to ensure adequate access to care and patient flow throughout the clinic sites and collaborates with clinician and administrative staff to ensure effective and efficient clinic operations. The Nurse Director of Clinical Services will report directly to the Senior Director of Nursing and will supervise the Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Medical Assistant I, Medical Assistant Floater, Medical Assistant Vaccine Support, and Clinical Nurse Manager. This is a full-time position.

This salary for this position ranges between $115,000 and $125,000 annually and the offer amount is determined by the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience. Indeed provides their own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH's range.

Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational:
  • Responsible for the oversight of administration and application of all clinical nursing functions, procedures, and protocols.
  • Oversees management of inventory of medical supplies within budget specifications for all of the medical clinic sits.
  • Oversees in-service or refresher training as needed to keep clinical staff up to date on medical information as well as further their medical knowledge.
  • Oversees the functioning of the Vaccine for Children program at the clinic according to CDC and DC regulations.
  • Assists with analysis and preparation of clinical data needed for reporting to multiple government agencies or internal sources as requested.
  • Oversees implementation of OSHA regulations.
  • Oversees compliance with CLIA certification management.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Nursing:
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment including, but not limited to, taking the patient's history, obtaining accurate vital signs, and verifying the chief complaint.
  • Instructs patients in basic testing requirements (i.e. PFTs, clean catch urines, and finger sticks) as needed.
  • Performs all in-house labs and procedures as indicated by the protocol.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments ordered by the provider.
  • Performs routine blood draws in the office as needed.
  • Performs vaccine and medication administration on patients of all ages when ordered by the provider.
  • Assists with clinical procedures done by the providers in the office as needed.
  • Addresses patient phone calls in a timely and efficient manner, forwarding to the provider when necessary.
  • Answers triage phone calls by assessing the patient's medical condition and determining if patient needs to be seen by the provider or should be sent immediately to the Emergency Room.
  • Ensures lab results, both normal and abnormal are verified and reported to the patient in a timely manner.
  • Assists with Chronic Care Management, including but not limited to, conducting Previsit Chart Reviews as necessary.
  • Maintains a pap log to ensure that proper follow up from abnormal paps is accomplished within the designated time.
  • Monitors the outstanding lab report in eCW to ensure that results are received in a timely manner and that patients return to the clinic should a lab not be completed properly..
  • Maintains a Newborn Metabolic Screen log to ensure that results are obtained in a timely manner for all Newborn patients.

Supervisory & Leadership:
  • Meets with supervisees regularly and provides real-time feedback, training, support, and coaching as needed. Creates meeting agendas, sends meeting agendas in advance when possible, and documents concerns promptly as needed.
  • Applies principles learned through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings and/or trauma informed care trainings (TIC) and leads with a DEI and TIC lens when appropriate.
  • Reviews the performance of team members in a timely manner, including completing 90 day and annual performance evaluations per their due dates, documenting any issues or changes, providing recommendations for professional development and/or training opportunities, and recognizing staff when appropriate
  • Partners with the Talent Management team regarding personnel matters including but not limited to, terminations, leaves of absence, training, onboarding, and other COH handbook policies.
  • If applicable, actively recruits for vacancies with a sense of urgency. This includes reviewing resumes, phone screening, interviewing, and completing references. This also includes partnering with Talent Management for assistance in an effort to fill vacancies promptly.
  • Takes initiative and makes decisions within the scope of work. Assesses situations independently, thinks critically, and takes action to address issues or make useful recommendations while maintaining a solution-oriented lens.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately to team members?to ensure that team goals and responsibilities are achieved. Prioritizes tasks and directs work to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Establishes common goals with their team through communication, inspiring and leading team members, and holding team members accountable. Links team goals and metrics to the overall strategic plan.
  • Attends Leadership Institute trainings as needed or as required.
  • When appropriate, creates opportunities for teambuilding that connects staff to one another and COH"s mission to encourage connection between staff who are virtual, hybrid, and/or on-site.
  • Handles sensitive information with care and discretion to ensure confidentiality.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of science degree in nursing required.
  • A current, unencumbered DC Registered Nurse license with current CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of primary care and health maintenance required.
  • One-year management experience required.
  • Ability to work with computers and electronic health records required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to multitask required.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence in communicating with low-income populations required.
  • Demonstrates ability to function effectively in a team required.
  • Ability to travel between COH sites or relocate to a different COH site on a full or part-time basis required.
  • Ability to work Saturdays and evenings required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Amharic, or French preferred.

  • In relation to remote work versus on-site expectations, this position is classified as the following: Hybrid: Remote work and on-site work requirements are generally split roughly 50/50.
