Description:

The Director of Outpatient Services provides oversight and management of the Outpatient Services Program. The outpatient program includes an aftercare support program and specialized Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available for adolescents and adults who can live at home and desire continued substance use treatment and/or psychological treatment to live full and independent lives. The Director will interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, patient-centered, evidence-based, and high-quality program delivery and to achieve the growth objectives of this program.

Meets productivity and quality improvement goals and safety standards, ensures focus on staff development, supervision, and training, and performs duties as workload necessitates.

Duties
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Services Manager for outpatient services, serves as an Ambassador program for Admissions and Business Development regarding leads and prospective admissions; provides or arranges for consultations and/or feedback in a timely manner. Ensures timely communication with referrers.
  • Ensures team participation in daily morning huddle to provide patient status updates, report on emergent issues, and communicate census updates. Convene huddles to address emergent issues regarding patient care, patient safety, and patient flow, as needed.
  • As needed, provides consultation, psychiatric assessment, psychoeducation, clinical supervision, or other clinical interventions, in accordance with the Director's clinical licensure and the requirements of the psychiatry discipline at Silver Hill Hospital.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled, interdisciplinary team meetings to formulate an integrated understanding of the patient and to develop treatment plans that reflect the patient's goals, preferences, needs, and sociocultural context.
  • Ensures supervision of the team in identifying transference/countertransference dynamics. Use this understanding to further responsiveness to the patient and their needs.
  • Oversees crisis management in collaboration with the Clinical Services Manager, outpatient staff, community treatment providers, emergency personnel, and others involved in the patient's care. Monitors the safety and well-being of patients and immediately responds to safety risks in accordance with hospital policies, and provides support and guidance for clinical staff on patient care and safety concerns.
  • Identifies opportunities for new, revised, or enhanced services, and collaborates with other stakeholders in implementing changes to programming or workflow. Effectively communicates changes in outpatient services programming with internal or external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with the Patient Experience and Quality Departments on implementing initiatives identified through patient and family feedback and in response to regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
  • Works cross-functionally with clinicians and clinical leadership to ensure that high quality treatment is being provided consistently, and in accordance with quality standards of care.
  • Convenes regularly scheduled, interdisciplinary case conferences to develop an integrated understanding of the patient (i.e., individual, group, milieu, family) and to develop treatment plans that reflect the patient's goals, preferences, needs, and sociocultural context.
  • Assists the team in identifying transference/countertransference dynamics and uses this understanding to facilitate reflection that furthers understanding of the patient (i.e., support responsiveness to the patient rather than reactivity to the patient).
  • Ensures all policies and procedures for outpatient services are updated and reflect best practices.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Services Manager and Human Resources recruits, interviews, orients and onboards new clinical staff, including contractors. Oversees staffing needs, including coverage, to ensure uninterrupted outpatient services.
  • Coaches direct reports and fosters their professional growth and development. Completes performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
  • MD, with specialization in psychiatry; PhD or PsyD in Counseling/Clinical Psychology or Clinical Social Work; LCSW; DPN

Licensure
  • Licensed in the state of Connecticut.

Specialized knowledge
  • Integrative, flexible approach to treatment.
  • Extensive familiarity with biopsychosocial formulations and assessment.
  • Experience working in inpatient, residential, and outpatient psychiatric settings.

Skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Salesforce

Experience
  • Five to seven years' experience providing high quality outpatient psychiatric services. Postdoctoral supervision experience and/or postdoctoral training in psychotherapy and/or group work.
  • Management/leading clinical team experience preferred.
