Position Overview

Serves as Bureau Chief of Accessibility and Job Accommodation. Serves as full-line supervisor. Directs provisions of technical assistance and general information to entities covered under the ADA statutes. Serves as agency ADA coordinator, addresses reasonable modifications requests made by clients, customers, or consumers of DHS. Works cooperatively and in conjunction with other agency administrators, and subordinates to plan and implement special projects, programs, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Bureau Chief of Accessibility and Job Accommodation.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Directs provisions of technical assistance and general information to entities covered under the ADA statutes.
  • Serves as agency ADA coordinator, addresses reasonable modifications requests made by clients, customers, or consumers of DHS.
  • Works cooperatively and in conjunction with other agency administrators, and subordinates to plan and implement special projects, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in business or public administration.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the delivery of a wide array of human service-related training subjects.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of professional experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in interpreting and applying Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws, guidelines and policies for a public or private organization.
  • Four (4) years of professional supervisory experience managing personnel, assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, implementing discipline, training and evaluating staff.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in a public or private organization maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience staying abreast of technology and/or accommodations available to individuals.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience interacting with and communicating clearly and tactfully with a wide range of internal and external entities that include state agencies, customers, and advocacy groups.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in a social or human services related field.


Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Term Appointment:
Candidates hired into a term position shall be appointed for a term of 4 years and are subject to a probationary period. The term may be renewed for successive four-year terms at the Director of the Department of Human Services's discretion.
