Job Purpose:
  • Perform development and studies of noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) engineering techniques in support of tire development programs with a priority on the North America Original Equipment (OE) automotive market and in collaboration with international associates.
  • Position is within the Virtual Technology Group which focuses on specialized and advanced technology including measurement and simulation techniques to predict and assess tire performance on vehicles.

Level:The level of this position varies dependent on qualifications and background.

Responsibilities:
  • Support tire product development engineers and vehicle OE customers with tire performance investigations and analyses.
  • Implement existing company NVH tools and technologies and contribute to their capability advancement.
    • Perform modal and noise & vibration measurement in-lab and on-vehicle at proving grounds.
    • Perform simulations of tire noise and vibration performance.
  • Collaborate with company technical personnel as necessary.
  • Regularly document and communicate with deliverables in form of written reports and presentations

Core Competencies:
  • Experience with Linux and Windows desktop operating systems
  • Proficiency with MS/Office or similar document tools: word processor, presentations, and spreadsheets
  • Computer coding skills using general purpose software; Python, Matlab, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in local and international collaborative team environments.

Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or related engineering field with structural and rotating dynamics, and signal analysis concepts course work required; PhD strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of recent, within last 3 years, relevant experience in tire or automotive industry required applying and developing NVH methods for tire performance investigations
  • Experience using commercial NVH data acquisition and analysis codes; Siemens/LMS TestLab required; experience with Head Acoustics preferred
  • Proficiency with the following measurement methods required:
    • Instrumentation (accelerometers, force cells, microphones, etc.)
    • Signal data acquisition, processing and analysis
    • Laboratory and in-situ (on-vehicle) vibration and noise measurement analysis methods
    • Experimental modal analysis (EMA) methods; impact and shaker excitation
    • Equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) techniques; linear, nonlinear, and dynamic sub structuring
