Job Description
We are seeking a talented and curious engineer to join our SPecialized Research in Chaotic Systems (SPaRCS) team within our Small Molecule Therapeutics and Platform Technologies (SMTPT) organization. This individual will work with scientists and engineers across R&D to design custom instruments that deliver significant productivity improvements to AbbVie laboratories. The successful candidate will utilize their thirst for knowledge and their experience to design fluidic, robotic, and optical systems for a wide variety of life science laboratories.

Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex, custom, robotic, fluid handling, and electromechanical automated instruments and systems.
- Blend information from client scientific laboratories with engineering team needs to determine functional specifications.
- Leverage multiple fabrication processes including CNC machining, 3D printing, and microfabrication to produce novel designs.
- Negotiate and collaborate with instrument vendors to secure access to solid models to facilitate integration of commercial instruments with customized components.
- Contribute to general instrument electrical, software, and mechanical engineering design decisions and problem solving.
Qualifications
Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Required:
- MS or PhD in mechanical engineering 7+(MS) or 3+(PhD) years of experience.
- Hands-on research experience in designing complex electromechanical and/or robotic fluid-handling systems.
- Multidisciplinary understanding of how to solve engineering problems.
Desirable:
- Experience working in diverse fields of science including: biology, chemistry, and physics.
- Familiarity or capacity to learn multiple solids modeling software and multiphysics modeling platforms.
- Experience with pneumatic, microfluidic, and microfabrication design.

- Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally, with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
