Job Description
This position ensures that the company continues to maintain and increase the value from the portfolio of Clean Energy program instruments and attributes resulting from electric/gas operations (all electric generating assets) and services in the current and emerging clean energy instrument marketplace. Individuals in this position are expected to prudently analyze the acquisition, procurement, and economic optimization of clean energy instruments/attributes to meet current and future clean energy regulatory and legal requirements while also assuring resource adequacy in the short to intermediate-market trading term. Incumbents will also develop and implement plans, processes, and structured transactions for the purpose of optimizing the value of clean energy instruments/attributes. Incumbents will need to keep apprised of changing clean energy agendas, impact of equity in various areas within Avista's service territory, and other regulatory components which may impact acquisition.

Job Description

Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage Avista's dynamic Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Climate Commitment Act (CCA) allowances, Climate Protection Program (CCI) instruments and clean gas portfolio including strategy planning, transacting, and ensuring accurate reporting.
- Optimize Avista's portfolio of clean energy instruments/attributes by planning and developing a coordinated strategy considering generation resources and compliance obligations. Develop and execute strategic purchases and sales with market participants and clean energy marketplaces to secure appropriate volumes.
- Conduct trades of clean energy instruments as necessary within Avista's trading guidelines and risk management policies which include financial and physical products. Document all transactions. Collaborate with real-time trading staff, resource planning, environmental, accounting, finance, and other internal teams to ensure adherence with various programs.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan that maximizes the value of the corporation's resources within the Risk Management Policy guidelines. Utilizes existing market activities and structures to enable asset optimization strategies, products, and value-added services.
- Coordinate with internal Avista staff to prepare and submit required reports for verification and with regulatory agencies. Stay updated on potential changes in environmental regulations and assess their impact on Avista 's wholesale operations.
- Develop procedures, processes, and analytical tools necessary for energy supply resource budgeting, key business variance reporting for management, assessment, and reporting of changes in physical and financial positions to management and changes business risk related to portfolio management. Incumbents effectively communicate with management and regulatory commissions regarding the operation and use of such technical tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of directly related marketing and energy trading experience representing an in-depth knowledge of the utility and/or energy business.
- Demonstrated significant knowledge of electric/gas power markets, products and services, wholesale customer needs, and WECC transmission grid.
- An in-depth understanding of the impacts of environmental products around hedging and trading activities is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated advanced mathematics and analytical skills to comprehend, interpret, and inform trading decisions.
- Effective and flexible written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated influencing and negotiation skills
- Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve objectives through influence.
