Job Summary:
The successful applicant will provide assistance to the facility manager for the day to day operations of the UWCCC Small Animal Imaging & Radiotherapy Facility (SAIRF). The employee will operate and maintain preclinical MRI, microSPECT/CT, microPET/CT, in vivo optical and cell/animal irradiators. Based on specific needs of the research, the incumbent will make recommendations in the experimental design, execute imaging and therapy studies according to the experimental design, and advise/train researchers, scientists and faculty on system operation. They will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of all scans performed, agents injected, and data collected. This person will ensure timely interaction with investigators and researchers. The employee will handle and manipulate small animals to perform drug administration, inoculation, scanning, and tissue/blood collection. The successful candidate will hold local certification for small animal welfare as well as radiation, biological and chemical safety training. The incumbent will assist with animal care and husbandry of laboratory animals. The candidate will assist with the development and maintenance of protocols and standard operating procedures. The employee will work directly with other SAIRF staff, and they will report to the SAIRF Director and Manager.
Responsibilities: Provides technical expertise in a research, development, or scientific program. Develops, modifies, adapts, and may design equipment to create unique systems in support of research, development, or instruction, involving, but not limited to, the disciplines of electronics, mechanical/thermal systems, optics, and/or computers.
  • 25% Provides technical expertise to staff, researchers, clients, and students in the installation and use of equipment and instruments, exercising discretion and independent judgment to meet unit goals
  • 10% Develops, integrates, tests, modifies, and may design sophisticated scientific equipment to support research/clinical initiatives and unit directives
  • 10% Designs, plans, and performs preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 20% Answers questions and provides technical information regarding instrumentation to staff, researchers, clients, and students
  • 5% Assists with the preparation of grant proposals and applicable documentation
  • 5% Investigates new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research/clinical staff, students, and clients
  • 5% Supports troubleshooting efforts to define and resolve problems
  • 5% Assembles data and/or provides input for reports of design status and/or technical research for professional organizations, government/sponsors review boards, and/or design reviews
  • 5% Leads the operations and/or management of a facility
  • 5% Supports project planning and coordination
  • 5% Facilitates the billing process

Qualifications:
Required:
- At least 5 years of experience working in a research laboratory.

Preferred:
- At least 3 years of experience working with preclinical MRI and in a nuclear medicine and/or molecular imaging laboratory.
- Prior experience working with laboratory animals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The candidate must have strong communication and customer service skills.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $75,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $75k but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:
University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship and TN visas.
