Senior Software Engineer (Backend Full Stack) Core Services & Resilience
NYC-based team (Hybrid 3-4 days a week in office)
Viam is a full-service engineering platform that allows developers through enterprises the ability to configure and control physical devices in a data-driven and intuitive way. Whether you're managing one robot or physical device (sensors, cameras, IoT) in a lab or a fleet of thousands in the field, Viam enables seamless cloud-based control and insights. We're looking for senior firepower (with a strong backend focus) to join our Core Services & Resilience team. This team builds the cloud systems and backend services that allow developers to configure, monitor, and control physical robots or devices, at scale.

The starting salary for this role is between $160K-191K/year. Your exact offer will vary based on a number of factors including experience level, skillset, market location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Senior Software Engineer (Backend Full Stack) Core Services & Resilience

Whether you're managing one robot or physical device (sensors, cameras, IoT) in a lab or a fleet of thousands in the field, Viam enables seamless cloud-based control and insights. We're looking for senior firepower (with a strong backend focus) to join our Core Services & Resilience team. This team builds the cloud systems and backend services that allow developers to configure, monitor, and control physical robots or devices, at scale.
Why this role might excite you:
- You'll work across the stack, primarily backend (Golang, MongoDB, Linux), but also contribute to simple and meaningful frontend experiences (Svelte and Vue).
- You'll shape the technical roadmap and platform foundations for an application that impacts all industries.
- You'll mentor engineers, give thoughtful code reviews, and help us grow a team that values inclusion, creativity, and technical rigor.
- You'll get to dive deeper and gain exposure to robotics, Internet of Things, and AI.
- Shaping our broader application architecture and technical roadmap
- Building and improving our application's gRPC API and core product features like scheduling (distributed cron), robot logs, billing, and event alerting.
- Building internal tools and services that other teams rely on to ship features faster.
- Supporting user authentication and access management flows for Viam application.
- Experience across backend and frontend (more backend-focused is great).
- Experience building cloud services, distributed systems and/or scalable web app architecture.
- Comfort navigating evolving goals and complex system design.
- A collaborative mindset. Enthusiasm for mentoring and working across teams.
- A preference for in-person collaboration. Our current team is based in NYC and we're in-office about 4 days a week.
