Position Purpose
The Vice President, Resource Development (VP, RD) is responsible for educating, engaging, and inspiring the community to invest in United Way's mission. This leader sets the strategic direction and drives the execution of all fundraising and donor engagement efforts, ensuring that the annual campaign and long-term fundraising strategies support the organization's impact priorities.
This position leads a high-performing Resource Development team and works to deepen relationships with donors, businesses, and community leaders. As a member of the Executive Team, the VP, RD also collaborates with internal staff, Board members, and volunteers to secure sustainable resources that enable long-term mission achievement.

Core hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Hours may vary based on activities and may require early morning, late evenings and in some cases, weekend hours.

SALARY RANGE:
$112,500 - $140,600 (based on experience). In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance. United Way contributes 8% of gross wages to a defined contribution plan, which becomes fully vested after 5 years of employment. Employees also have the option to contribute to a 403(b) plan. Furthermore, we provide generous paid time off, including vacation, sick, and personal days, as well as 10 paid holidays each year.

- Design and implement multi-year strategies to grow financial support aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide visionary leadership and respond to the evolving philanthropic landscape.
- Set clear team goals, build operational plans, and ensure accountability for fundraising performance.
- Evaluate market trends and incorporate innovations to enhance fundraising outcomes.
- Lead major change initiatives and align department strategy with United Way's Plan for Community Well-Being.
- Collaborate with the CEO and Executive Team to align donor priorities with organizational funding needs.
30 % Department Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and oversee all areas of Resource Development, including:

- Coordinate with Community Impact on Strategic Collaborations grants and Marketing on Community Direct Response Campaigns.
- Oversee donor recognition and stewardship strategies (e.g., events, letters).
- Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations and manage external fundraising contracts (e.g., Creating Healthier Communities, American Heart Association).
- Serve as liaison to funding partners, business associations, and professional networks (e.g., Association of Fundraising Professionals).
- Foster a relationship-based culture and model a customer-service orientation in all interactions.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure timely and effective communication of program outcomes to volunteers and donors.
- Manage department data integrity and reporting systems.
- Develop and monitor the department's annual budget in collaboration with team leads.
- Supervise and coach all Resource Development staff, providing regular feedback, goal setting and performance evaluations.
- Lead the Resource Development leadership team and support professional development across the department.
- Foster a culture of equity, innovation, teamwork, excellence and well-being.
- Attract, retain and inspire a diverse, mission-driven team committed to United Way's values.
20 % Volunteer Engagement
- Develop meaningful roles for volunteers and ensure strong staff support, training and recognition.
- Identify and recruit volunteer leaders for campaign committees, the Board, Foundation Board and other key initiatives.
- Maintain strong relationships with community leaders and ensure that volunteer engagement enhances United Way's brand and reach.
- Lead a comprehensive volunteer strategy for engagement, placement, training and appreciation.
10 % Overall Support of Organization
- Participate in organizational planning, strategy, program development and relevant activities.
- Serve as the Executive Sponsor of the United Way Internal Campaign Committee.
- Develop positive relationships with all staff, volunteers and donors.
- Collaborate with colleagues to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience. Master's degree preferred.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strategic Thinking & Analytical Skills: Strong ability to think strategically, analyze data, and translate insights into actionable plans.
- Leadership & Motivation: Proven track record in motivating and leading both volunteers and staff to achieve organizational goals.

Minimum Experience
- Fundraising & Campaign Leadership: At least 5 years of experience leading fundraising campaigns or sales efforts, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization, with a record of progressive growth.
- Executive Leadership: A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience as a senior member of an executive team, contributing to organizational strategy and success.
- Supervisory & Management: Minimum of 3 years of experience managing and supervising teams, including providing coaching, development, and performance management.
- Fund Development Expertise: In-depth knowledge of fund development, relationship-building, and donor engagement strategies.
- Strategic Planning & Donor Engagement: Proven success in strategic planning, executing donor engagement strategies, and leading staff to meet goals.
- Project & Talent Management: Experience in the development, implementation, and management of projects and talent management initiatives.
- Marketing & Communications Knowledge: Strong understanding of marketing, public relations, media relations, and communications strategies.
- Financial & Technical Skills: Working knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, and database technologies (e.g., CRM systems, analytics, and reporting).
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to work with data to inform decisions, manage projects, and facilitate meetings.
- Program Design: Experience in designing programs in collaboration with analytics, talent management, or learning and development teams.
- Relationship Building: Strong ability to cultivate and maintain productive, positive relationships in an open, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365, Word, Excel), with the ability to learn new client data management systems and platforms.
