Job Description

The Network Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of the University's network infrastructure and for providing reliable and responsive information technology services to students, faculty and staff. This position will provide leadership based on best practices, a keen understanding of the University's strategic priorities and have the ability to anticipate and develop plans, programs and policies to support the University's mission in an ever-changing environment. The position will direct and supervise the administrative, academic, and research network environment. Oversees the team leaders of the various areas within Network Services and determines how to best meet the needs of a large multi-system environment and is directly responsible for providing managerial and technical leadership for the delivery of network infrastructure services.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage, & support the Network Services staff in performing their duties
  • Engage staff to maintain and improve technical skills and career development
  • Direct staff meeting and attend regular meetings with OIT management
  • Perform HR-related activities such as recruitment and regular performance evaluations
  • Maintain open interactions with other OIT and university groups and organizations
  • Lead the development, proposal, implementation, and support of infrastructure projects
  • Support building renovation and construction projects
  • Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, including RFI/P/Qs
  • Manage maintenance and support contracts
  • Negotiate for best value solutions, services, and projects
  • Manage capital inventory
  • Develop strategic plans and budget for the Network Services team
  • Work with Managers to ensure cost models for each group conform to University policy and procedures


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Organizational Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical field and 5 years of relevant experience (including at least 3 years of management experience) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to supervise highly technical staff
  • Broad technical knowledge including networking, IT security, IT operations, Telecommunications, etc. in a large-scale environment
  • Ability to manage multiple complex, high impact projects
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities
  • Ability to build relationships within and across organizational boundaries
  • Conflict management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Organizational Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical field and 7 years of relevant experience (including at least 3 years of management experience) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of working in a Higher Education environment
  • Broad knowledge that covers many aspects of information technology in addition to the core networking-related disciplines such as System Administration, Cloud Services, Audio Visual, etc.


Work Location:

This is an on-campus position with some flexibility for WFH.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • UT market range: MR16
  • Anticipated hiring range: $110,000 - $125,000
  • Regular Full Time Exempt
