Position Purpose:

The Controller leads the Accounting Team and ensure that all aspects of the Company's financial and tax reporting are consistent with the highest accounting standards by establishing and maintaining financial and accounting policies, procedures, cash management practices, controls, and reporting systems. The Controller ensures accounting, legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions across Barrett-Jackson.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Manages various financial functions such as monthly close and overseeing accounting operations (A/R, A/P, Payroll, GL, Fixed Assets, Revenue Recognition).
  • Manages the auction accounting processes in accordance with SOP's.
  • Hire, develop, and mentor staff to perform the full cycle accounting and auction processes.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial management reports.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide financial reporting and analysis as required by the CFO and other Corporate Officers.
  • Research technical accounting issues for GAAP compliance and maintain current knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare various monthly state, local and entity sales tax and annual business property and gross receipts returns.
  • Work with project management staff to ensure proper compliance with accounting systems and procedures including reviewing and testing processes.
  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll process as needed.
  • Prepare and issue timely and complete monthly/annual financial statements.
  • Ensure monthly G/L and bank reconciliations are completed accurately.
  • Develop merchandise cost of goods sold and reconcile related inventory.
  • Run the year-end audit.
  • Ensure that accounting processes and reporting comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CFO.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7+ years financial accounting and previous managerial experience.
  • CPA is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, but advanced expertise with MS Excel.
  • Able to work independently, but also effectively as part of team.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to meet and enforce deadlines.
  • Team player who works in collaboration with other departments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and driving KPI's and operational metrics.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, communicate and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and working independently to find and resolve issues with minimal guidance.

Culture

Barrett-Jackson's culture is live and in-person our business to the core. Team members are in the office 5 days per week, 8am to 5pm at the Scottsdale, AZ headquarters. During live events the company largely travels together to produce and ensure each event is a success. This requires weekend work and long hours.
