About the Position

Dexis Professional Services (Dexis) is seeking a Research Specialist who will be responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and providing strategic input on defense programs and projects.

The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)) is responsible for leading the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) efforts related to research and development, advanced technology, developmental test and evaluation, production, logistics, installation management, military construction, defense procurement, acquisition policy, environmental and nuclear security, chemical and biological matters, operational energy plans and programs, corrosion policy and oversight, human capital initiatives, as well as small and disadvantaged business management. To accomplish this mission, OUSD(A&S) requires administrative, analytical, and strategic communication support services.

This position supports the development of policies and strategies guiding the acquisition and sustainment of defense systems and capabilities. The Research Specialist will work with the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)) and its supporting divisions, including the Assistant Secretaries of Defense for Acquisition, Sustainment, Energy, Installations and Environment, and Industrial Base Policy, as well as the Directorate of Business Operations.

The position will be based in the DC metro area and is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze data from various sources (e.g., technical reports, policy documents) to support defense acquisition and sustainment decisions.
  • Identify emerging technologies, systems, and operational trends that impact acquisition strategies and defense capabilities.
  • Conduct technical reviews and assessments of new and existing defense systems to determine readiness, effectiveness, and applicability.
  • Assist in developing policies and strategies for acquiring and sustaining defense systems.
  • Provide input on defense programs by researching specific requirements, risks, and technological feasibility.
  • Support cost-effectiveness analyses, risk management strategies, and feasibility assessments for defense programs.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, white papers, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
  • Present findings to senior leadership, stakeholders, and working groups.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including acquisition, logistics, and engineering teams, to align research findings with operational needs.
  • Partner with external research organizations, defense contractors, universities, and government agencies to develop innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning for defense acquisition and sustainment.
  • Assist in developing budget proposals, resource allocation plans, and financial justifications for research and sustainment projects.


Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret/SCI facility clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience in strategic communications.
  • Executive-level support experience within DoD or other federal agencies.
  • Experience leading and providing technical guidance on high-complexity projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage customer expectations and work directly with stakeholders.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, initiative, judgment, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.


Below is the pay range aligned with this position. When developing a range, Dexis evaluates compensation holistically, triangulating between external market research, our budget for the position, and internal equity to arrive at a figure that is fair and competitive. Offers within this range will be based on an individual candidate's qualification, relevant education and experience, skills, performance, and organizational needs.

Dexis pay range for this role:

$80,000-$100,000 USD
