Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Director Environmental Services position is to be responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services Department. Responsible for successfully coordinating and supporting all activities of the department. Works with all levels of the facility staff in all mattersrelating to the cleanliness of the facility. Ensures University Hospital meets all Joint Commission guidelines.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field, plus at least five (5) years of management experience in Environmental Services within a healthcare setting required. Certification as an executive housekeeper is preferred. A thorough knowledge of the Joint Commission, knowledge of NJDOHSS requirements, EPA requirements, OSHA and Federal, State and local laws, regulations, and codes pertaining to bio-hazardous and infectious waste management; environmental issues and concerns related to solid, hazardous and recoverable waste collection and disposal;solid waste and recycling programs; principles and practices of effective management and supervision, including long- and short- range planning; group and interpersonal dynamics; written and oral communication techniques and methodologies; program planning and implementation; hazardous materials and hazardous waste storage, treatment and disposal; and computer systems and applications. Able to develop, manage and implement a capital and operating budget for Environmental Services. Experience in managing linen services is preferred. Ability to execute goals, objectives and make quick decisions in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be substituted for the degree requirement. Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment are required. Demonstrated knowledge is necessary of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
