About the Position
Dexis Professional Services (Dexis) is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to be responsible for conducting research and studies and analyzing data from a variety of sources to provide input on defense programs and projects.
The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)) is responsible for leading the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) efforts related to research and development, advanced technology, developmental test and evaluation, production, logistics, installation management, military construction, defense procurement, acquisition policy, environmental and nuclear security, chemical and biological matters, operational energy plans and programs, corrosion policy and oversight, human capital initiatives, as well as small and disadvantaged business management. To accomplish this mission, OUSD(A&S) requires administrative, analytical, and strategic communication support services.
This role will assist in developing policies and strategies to guide the acquisition and sustainment of defense systems and capabilities for the OUSD(A&S). The position requires strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work closely with senior officials and stakeholders across the Department of Defense (DoD).
This position is based in the DC metro area and is contingent upon award.
Responsibilities

When developing a range, Dexis evaluates compensation holistically, triangulating between external market research, our budget for the position, and internal equity to arrive at a figure that is fair and competitive. Offers within this range will be based on an individual candidate's qualification, relevant education and experience, skills, performance, and organizational needs.
Dexis pay range for this role:
$95,000-$130,000 USD

Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data from various sources (e.g., technical reports, field data, policy documents) to support decision-making in defense acquisition and sustainment.
- Identify emerging technologies, systems, and operational trends that could impact acquisition strategies and defense capabilities.
- Conduct or support technical reviews, assessments, and evaluations of defense systems and technologies to determine their readiness, effectiveness, and applicability.
- Assist in developing policies and strategies guiding defense system acquisition, sustainment, and management.
- Provide input on defense programs by researching program requirements, potential risks, and technological feasibility.
- Support cost-effectiveness analyses, risk management strategies, and feasibility assessments for defense programs.
- Prepare reports, white papers, and presentations summarizing research findings, technical evaluations, and policy recommendations.
- Present research findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, stakeholders, and working groups.
- Collaborate with other departments, including acquisition, logistics, and engineering teams, to align research with operational and technical requirements.
- Work with external research organizations, defense contractors, universities, and other government agencies to develop new solutions to technical and policy challenges.
- Assist in budget proposal development, resource allocation planning, and financial justification for research and sustainment projects.
- Active Top Secret/SCI facility clearance.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience specializing in DoD policy, product support, and logistics.
- Experience providing executive-level support within DoD and other federal agencies.
- Proven ability to lead multiple high-complexity projects and provide technical guidance.
- Experience in managing customer expectations and working directly with customers.
- Strong initiative, judgment, creativity, flexibility, and confidence.
- Ability to multi-task across multiple projects.
- Master's degree from an accredited college/university.
- Prior military or DoD civilian/contractor experience.
