License: Current license as Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice is required
Certifications:
- Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Must-Have: Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution
Job Description:
- Provide advanced-level respiratory care to patients for diagnosing, evaluating, treating, managing, and controlling cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and/or abnormalities within the physician's prescription.
- Act as a resource to CRT staff and contribute to special clinical projects or department assignments as needed.
- Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures; obtain arterial gases and oversee equipment operation for optimal patient care.
- Initiate Respiratory Protocol according to department criteria and interventions based on assessment interpretation.
- Administer medications safely and timely, evaluate and re-evaluate effects as per protocol, and communicate patient progress to staff, physicians, and departments.
- Maintain awareness of patient conditions, share information with physicians and nurses, and make recommendations for patient care.
- Recognize and address educational needs of patients and families relating to health promotion and self-care techniques.
- Complete documentation as per departmental standards, accurately document productivity, monitor supplies and equipment, and notify relevant personnel concerning inventory issues.
- Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, suggesting improvements for patient satisfaction and identifying safety hazards.
- Engage in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback and promote the profession of Respiratory Care by mentoring staff.
- Participate in quality improvement and research activities to guide the development of patient care standards.
- Flexibility to float to other departments based on business need and may require being on-call during shifts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
