Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Telemetry

Job Specialty: Medical Surgical Unit

Job Duration: 14 weeks

Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM (12-hour Night Shifts)

Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

Experience: 1 year minimum, preference for more experience

License: Registered Nurse

Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred
- EKG interpretation/Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred

Must-Have:
- Previous charge experience preferred and willingness to act as a charge nurse
- Comfortable with reading and interpreting rhythm strips
- Proficiency in managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), insulin drips, and heparin drips

Job Description:

The position involves providing nursing care in a Medical Surgical Unit with telemetry capability, responsible for monitoring patients with various medical diagnoses. Common conditions include stroke, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal failure, electrolyte imbalances, altered mental status, and more.

Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and assessing patients, particularly those on telemetry
- Providing trach care, chest tube management, and other general medical surgical skills (wound care, IV antibiotics, drain/tube management, IV starts, central line management)
- Supporting patient ambulation and progression of functional status
- Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and professional standards of care
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including CNAs, house supervisors, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, PT/OT/ST, and others during dayshift when staffing allows

Additional Information:
- The RN will work with a typical patient ratio of 1:5-6 during night shifts; this may vary based on patient acuity and available support
- The unit supports professional attire for scrubs in any color, without crocs that have holes, artificial nails, or personal cell phone usage unless on break
- Floating may be required to any area with Medical/Telemetry patients, in accordance with the nurse's scope of practice
- The hospital utilizes the Cerner charting system and provides training on equipment such as Alaris and Pyxis
- No holiday requests for time off are accepted at this time, and there is no requirement for call shifts
