Working Hours
The Optometrist shall be able to provide services 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, excluding federal holidays. Shifts will be 8 hours in length. No guarantee can be made that the shift will end as scheduled. A minimum break of 30 minutes will be given during the shift.
Summary of Duties
The Optometrist is expected to treat 16 patients per eight-hour workday. Patient ages range from infant to elderly; treatment of this age variance is mandatory. The optometry department will provide support services for scheduling, mailing appointments, and optometry technician support. Pharmacy staff will dispense medication at the White Earth Health Center.

- Estimated Compensation: $200,000.00 - $210,000.00 year.
- Type of Employment:Full-Time = 40 hours per week.
- Travel: Travel may be required under this contract.
- Relationship: 1099 Independent Contractor.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited Optometry Program in the United States.
- Must have an active Optometry license within the 50 states with no restrictions.
- Must possess and provide documentation of continuing education
- Must apply for and have approved appropriate medical privileges by medical staff.
- Be able to read, write, and speak English well enough and enunciate with sufficient clarity to effectively communicate with patients and other healthcare providers.
- Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity so that the optometrist can relate to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
- Be able to operate a personal computer utilizing Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and efficiently use an Electronic Medical Record.
- Be able to type and have experience using computers.
- Must have a current BLS certification.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed assessments of the eyes, including testing peripheral vision, eye muscle function, and the retina, cornea, and optic nerve condition. This involves using advanced diagnostic tools like slit lamps and visual field analyzers. Write eye prescriptions based on the eye exam.
- Use of High-Tech Diagnostic Tools: Advanced imaging systems like optical coherent tomography (OCT) are employed to monitor and diagnose retinal and optic nerve issues precisely.
- Developed personalized treatment plans for patients diagnosed with dry eye syndrome, diabetic retinopathy, or refractive errors.
- Identifying cases that require surgical intervention (e.g., cataract surgery) and referring patients to ophthalmologists.
- Fit specialty lenses for patients with unique needs, such as rigid gas permeable lenses for keratoconus or multifocal lenses for presbyopia.
- Offering guidance on how to properly use, store, and care for contact lenses, ensuring patients avoid risks like eye infections.
- Diabetes and Eye Health Screenings: Collaborating with other departments to manage diabetes-related vision risks and conduct screenings for early detection of complications.
- Providing therapy for patients with binocular vision disorders or focusing problems, which can improve learning and daily activities.
- Documenting electronic health system patient histories, treatment plans, and follow-up results.
- Providing virtual consultations to patients facing transportation challenges or living in remote areas.
