Compensation Range
$35.30 - $50.72 CAD Hourly

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for research coordination and administration of a health education program to people who have had a stroke during an outpatient telerehabilitation program as part of a multi-site clinical trial, Telerehabilitation with Aims to Improve Lower Extremity Recovery (TRAIL).

Organizational Status:

Reports to Dr. Brodie Sakakibara. Provides virtual outpatient services to stroke patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Work Performed:
  • Oversees research operations at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), including: recruiting study participants, and liaising with clinical staff
  • Administers a virtual outpatient stroke rehabilitation education program (non-academic program) for people with stroke via videoconferencing.
  • Evaluates, supervises, and provides motivation for the attention control arm (Education) in the Telerehabilitation with Aims to Improve Lower Extremity Recovery (TRAIL) study.
  • Contributes to data analyses and knowledge translation
  • Reports to study team on progress at the Kelowna study site
  • Attends weekly research team meetings
  • Providing patient perspective on all aspects of research protocols and processes
  • Contributes to securing grant funding, including but not limited to: identifying grant opportunities, grant writing, budget development


Consequence of Error/Judgement:

As this position will be working with clients who may have physical, functional and/or cognitive limitations the candidate must be able to supervise safely, and provide the stroke education in a professional and tactful manner.

Inappropriate patient interactions could result in patients and their families becoming frustrated, angry or seeking compensation.

Inattention to paperwork detail (errors on forms) could jeopardize the results to a multi-site clinical trial.

Supervision Received:

This position reports to Dr. Brodie Sakakibara, Assistant Professor, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. However, Dr. Sakakibara will not be on-site of where the candidate is working. Thus, the candidate must be fully competent and independent in their abilities to assess and supervise outpatient stroke patients.

Qualifications:

Minimum

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

Extensive experience in stroke rehabilitation; including stroke assessment, understanding the pathology of stroke, and working with stroke patients with dementia.

Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with others.

Individuals who have had a stroke and can administer the education program are encouraged to apply.
