Summary

The Fernandez Lab in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an early-career PhD investigator at the rank of assistant professor who has training in cell/molecular biology that is applicable to lung transplant translational research. The investigator will perform experiments, perform data analysis and have a major role in the development of research projects and publication of results in high impact journals and development of clinical abstracts and presentations. The investigator will also supervise post-doctoral fellows and research assistants and be expected to participate in extramural grant development.

The investigator will be responsible for evaluating data quality, preparing data, generating insights, and developing and presenting high-impact translational research for lung transplant-related disease; collaborating with faculty and trainees to disseminate these findings through intramural and extramural research efforts; developing grant proposals; and mentoring trainees.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with principal investigator and research team to facilitate smooth project progression.
  • Conduct research experiments using standard molecular techniques such as PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, among other techniques.
  • Harvest cell cultures and maintain cultures for in-vitro experiments
  • Perform experiments in mice - delivering treatments via intratracheal, intraperitoneal, and intravascular routes.
  • Prepare biological specimens for analysis including mouse tissue
  • Actively participate in research meetings and contribute to the development of research strategies.
  • Design and implement data analysis plans for research projects, utilizing statistical methods and software tools.
  • Perform comprehensive data analyses to extract meaningful insights and draw evidence-based conclusions.
  • Independently lead and contribute to the development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, summarizing research findings and methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of current literature and integrate relevant information into manuscript drafts.
  • Contribute to the development of research protocols and assist in obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Communicate research findings through presentations at conferences, seminars, and other relevant forums.


Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: Ph.D. in cell/molecular biology and must have completed a post-doc. Successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams; successful track record of training students and postdoctoral fellows; accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an assistant professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.
