Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services and heat treat capability.
Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Mechanical Lab is responsible for managing day-to-day planning, operation and problem solving with a team of technicians to meet daily Safety, 6S, Quality, Productivity, Cost and Throughput standards and targets in assigned areas.

For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. - Manage multiple employees, over three shifts, in the Mechanical and Creep & Rupture work areas.
- Ensures that all employees work in a safe manner and that each employee is properly trained in all safety and quality procedures. Ensures that good housekeeping practices are consistently followed (6S).
- Provides leadership to employees and ensures they have the proper tools to perform their job safely and efficiently.
- Responsible to drive safety, 6S, quality, dispatch adherence and productivity requirements in the most cost-effective manner.
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Ensure that all machines are functioning properly and contact maintenance, or preapproved external service providers, if the equipment requires repair.
- Ensure testing is in accordance to procedure and specifications.
- Engages the team in identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects in the areas of safety, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
- Provides employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution. Gives necessary feedback on employee performance and behavior.
- Responsible for adherence to process control procedures, operating instructions, and all quality control instructions, and completes corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Ensures participation and adherence to Safety and Quality improvement initiatives, such as 6S, Zero Defects, etc.
- Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
- Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and assures compliance by assigned employees.
- Manages performance measures in areas of responsibility.
- Ensures throughput and target earned hours are attained and budget criteria is met or exceeded.
- Review variable costs, productivity, earned standard hours and throughput daily and implements effective corrective actions when targets are not achieved
- Conducts formal performance appraisals and recommends/approves pay increases, transfers, promotions, corrective counseling and terminations in accordance with Company policies and procedures and local, state and federal laws.
- Interviews and recommends for hire of new employees.
- Maintains adequate staffing to meet required production schedules.
- Effectively cooperate with other departments to attain departmental, company and corporate goals.
- Continuously stay informed of technological advancements and process improvements which may impact operations. Propose recommendations for improvement.
- Attend and participate in the daily and other supervisor meetings.
- Leverage the internal Operations Toolbox in support of daily operational targets.
- Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Develops capital equipment justifications for machine tools and process technology to improve quality, cost, and cycle times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Experience & Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, e.g., engineering, is highly preferred but not required.
- 3+ years of related experience in a testing lab environment.
- Forklift experience / certification preferred but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred but not required.
