Your Next Career Opportunity - Principal, Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs

The Principal Corporate Communications, will report to the Vice President. This position will play a critical role in developing and executing internal and CEO-executive communications programs, as well as external communications and philanthropy strategies that align with our company's goals and objectives. This role is highly visible and includes extensive interaction with the executive team and other functions at SBA Communications. As a senior-level professional, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of external communications, including public relations, media relations, stakeholder engagement and reputation management, often focusing on aligning communications with the company's broader business objectives and policy positions. Role relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performs a wide variety of tasks and leads and directs the work of others.

What you will Do - Primary Responsibilities

CEO and Executive Communications
  • Developing and driving the communications strategy and plan for the CEO and executive team.
  • Leading all aspects of content for all CEO employee communications, including town hall meetings, written content, and other channels used for engaging with SBA's employees.
  • Any other support for CEO and Executive Communications, as needed, including talking points for external events and public engagements, elevating executive voices on specific topics aligned with SBA's strategy, and developing a social media strategy for the CEO and executive team, with focus on leveraging platforms to drive engagement across priority audiences and topics.


Internal Communications
  • Developing and implementing a global internal communications and engagement strategy that supports company-wide objectives, ensures alignment with our corporate pillars and brand values, supports a positive workplace culture, and leverages team members' engagement to achieve business goals. Ensure consistency in messaging across all internal communication channels.
  • Promoting a culture of storytelling by identifying and amplifying employee success stories, business achievements, and initiatives that bring our values to life.
  • Providing strategic communications leadership for major enterprise initiatives, including organizational changes, leadership updates, business transformation programs, and employee engagement efforts.
  • Partnering closely with Human Resources teams to ensure communications are clear, compelling, and effectively support change initiatives and cultural transformation.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team on our employee experience platform (EXP) for internal communications - i.e., all-in-one solution WorkVivo, collaboration tools and explore innovative ways to connect with employees globally.
  • Establishing metrics to assess the effectiveness of internal communication and act on feedback to ensure communication is timely, relevant and meets the needs of SBA and internal audiences.


External Communications
  • Strategic Communications Planning
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the company's business objectives, including messaging frameworks, key narratives and target audience identification.
  • Crafting and overseeing communication plans to address key issues, promote company initiatives and manage crises.
  • Public and Media Relations
  • Monitoring and analyzing media coverage to identify trends and opportunities for proactive communication.
  • Staying current on developments affecting both SBA and its industry in order to effectively drive proactive and reactive media relations. In this role you will need to work across the organization to identify compelling data and storylines.
  • Managing relationships with media outlets, issuing press releases, coordinating interviews and responding to media inquiries to maintain positive press coverage.
  • Content Development. In coordination with Marketing, support communications efforts by creating content for various communication channels, including digital, social media, traditional media, and internal communications.
  • Reputation Management. Monitoring public perception, identifying potential reputational risks and developing strategies to mitigate negative publicity.
  • Crisis Communications. Developing and executing crisis communications protocols to address potential reputational risks, managing public perception during crises and providing timely information to stakeholders.
  • Reporting and Analysis. Tracking communications campaign performance, analyzing data to measure effectiveness and providing insights to senior management.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.


What You'll Need - Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, English, creative writing, journalism or related fields.
  • At least 15 years' previous experience in a communications or related role, including experience in a publicly traded company.
  • Experience in the telecommunications, digital technology or wireless infrastructure industries is preferred.
  • Experience planning, launching, spearheading and measuring global external and internal communications programs.
  • Experience with media relations, overseeing outside agencies to enhance productivity and ROI.
  • Experience with corporate philanthropy.
  • Experience in understanding technical subject matter to communicate to various stakeholder audiences.
  • Ability to partner with internal subject matter experts to conduct interviews, understand communications needs and assist with communications and promotional strategies while educating these partners on best practices in communications.
  • Ability to build relationships, interact and work effectively with all levels of management in the organization and maintain positive relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Set and maintain high standards of writing and performance.
  • Ensure that all written materials adhere to the brand messaging guidelines of SBA Communications.
  • Experience with multi-language communications environments.
  • Spanish preferred Strong Communication Skills
