We are looking for a Supervisor, Maintenance Planning to work closely with the Planning Superintendent to lead a team of Maintenance Planners and Schedulers in your assigned area. The role ensures the effective application of Rio Tinto's asset management systems and standards to develop and optimize maintenance plans aligned with business objectives.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Planning & Scheduling and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:
  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto Safety Standards, including area-specific processes for lockout procedures, etc.
  • Lead and develop a team of Maintenance Planners & Schedulers for your assigned area, ensuring effective task assignment, safety compliance, performance management, and skills development.
  • Champion the 6-week planning cycle and enforce adherence to Rio Tinto's standardized planning processes, tools, and meetings.
  • Assess asset condition and performance to update maintenance plans and tactics, aligning with business goals for cost, availability, and reliability.
  • Coordinate planning work and logistics to optimize resource utilization, reduce downtime, and maximize tool time for frontline teams.
  • Ensure full integration and consistent use of SAP for planning, scheduling, budgeting, and tracking all asset management activities.
  • Contribute to annual budget development and ongoing forecasting by ensuring PM01s are accurate, up to date, and aligned with equipment strategy.
  • Support planners in identifying process improvements, analyzing performance data, and updating planning documentation to meet target state goals.
  • Act as backup for the Planning Superintendent or Lead Planner when needed.


What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Maintenance Management, etc.), a Red Seal trade, or equivalent experience in a planning leadership role within an industrial environment.
  • Advanced understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling principles
  • A competent and visible leadership style of guiding, mentoring, developing and empowering team members resulting in positive employee engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in applying preventative, predictive, and planned maintenance strategies to reduce equipment breakdowns and extend asset life.
  • Solid knowledge of asset management systems (preferably SAP) and experience ensuring compliance with standardized planning procedures and tools.
  • Advanced coordination skills, with the ability to guide planning teams and influence cross-functional collaboration to achieve operational goals.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess maintenance performance, identify improvements, and drive process optimization.
  • Must hold at least a Class 7 BC driver's license, or be immediately eligible to obtain one if coming from out of province or country.

The base salary range for this role is $94,800 - $142,200 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
