Description:

Tyto Athene is seeking a mission-driven UX/UI Design Lead to join our technology innovation team, where user empathy meets technical excellence. This role will serve as the "voice of the customer," bridging user needs and technical capabilities. The ideal candidate will be fluent in documenting requirements and system capabilities, supporting training efforts, and ensuring all interfaces are compliant with Section 508 accessibility standards. You will collaborate across product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver usable, elegant solutions that meet federal program requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a conduit between end users and development teams, gathering and refining requirements into actionable design documentation.
  • Translate customer needs into user-centered wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs.
  • Ensure all UI components adhere to Section 508 and federal accessibility requirements.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align front-end design with backend system capabilities.
  • Create training materials and user guides to support successful solution adoption.
  • Develop and implement UX standards, design systems, and pattern libraries.
  • Participate in usability testing and incorporate user feedback into future iterations.
  • Clearly document design decisions, capabilities, and workflows for technical and non-technical audiences.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of UI/UX design experience, ideally in a federal or enterprise software environment.
  • Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Section 508 accessibility standards and testing tools.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with experience supporting training efforts.
  • Familiarity with agile development and close collaboration with engineering teams.

Desired:
  • Security clearance is a plus but not required.

Compensation:
  • Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.

Benefits:
  • Highlights of our benefits include Health/Dental/Vision, 401(k) match, Flexible Time Off, STD/LTD/Life Insurance, Referral Bonuses, professional development reimbursement, and maternity/paternity leave
