Overview
The Senior Manager - Electronic Systems Architecture is responsible for the architecture and integration of electronic systems into floor care products, including robotic vacuum products. This person will have Systems Engineering experience defining and developing electronic systems that include embedded PCBAs, loads, sensors, motors, batteries, power supplies, connectivity, and user interfaces. As a part of their responsibilities, the Senior Manager will lead a team of electronic system architects that define and specify the electrical systems required to deliver BISSELL products. They will also be a key member of a x-functional team driving a platform architecture & modularity strategy across all product categories. Finally, this person will also serve as the electronics team lead for technical communications with category product marketing leaders to ensure that their product plans are aligned with technology roadmaps and supported with the necessary electrical system solutions.

Responsibilities
- Key role for new product development projects as the leader of electronic systems architecture and integration of these systems into new floor care products including robots, air care, deep cleaning, hard surface cleaning, vacuums, and portables.
- Lead a team of electronic architects responsible for the complete electrical system in a x-functional product team.
- Define and deploy a platform modularity strategy for electronic systems including loads, sensors, power supplies, and PCBAs. Align and integrate this electronic system-level strategy with the electronics component-level hardware and software technology roadmaps.
- Utilize and demonstrate proficiency in electronic systems engineering to develop requirements and specifications for hardware, software, and electromechanical systems that can be integrated into BISSELL products as well as with the connected home.
- Serve as the primary interface to the product category teams to align the needs of BISSELL product plans with the required electronic systems capabilities. Translate the needs into innovation and execution projects as needed balancing resources, cost, quality, and timing.
- Lead technical project management (TPM) for electronics in the early phases of product development, focused on schedule, build/release planning. and issue management.
- As the owner for the electronic system development process, drive process improvement and standardization in the areas of project scoping, key interface definition, cost modeling, requirements & specification, schedules, supplier selection, and technical issue management.
- Work closely with BISSELL product development engineers to integrate the mechanical aspects of the product into the overall floor care product design.
- Work closely with BISSELL compliance engineers to obtain product approvals for electronic systems, if applicable, and approvals of the overall product that are dependent on electronics.
Provide knowledge and guidance for quality improvement and cost reduction projects involving electronic systems within floor care products.
- Communicate and lead teams effectively across a global organization and directly interact with overseas development and manufacturing partners, driving them to the desired results.
- Attract, retain, and develop talent to build a best-in-class electronic systems engineering team.
- Position holder will have advanced experience in engineering fundamentals, proven verbal and written communication capabilities, organizational, and project management skills. Failure mode effect analysis and/or risk analysis is desired.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Degree minimum: Bachelor's degree in EE or CE (Master's preferred)
- Specific concentration: Broad understanding of embedded systems technology including electronic PCBAs, loads, sensors, motors, batteries, power supplies, connectivity and user interfaces is required. Experience in systems engineering discipline developing requirements and defining system architecture using SysML/UML is also needed to be successful.
- Experience level: 12+ years minimum in software, electrical, or systems engineering and team leadership experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Embedded System Experience: Understanding of microcontroller based PCBA and firmware design, distributed systems, safety critical systems, and the definition of communication and power interfaces.
- Battery Systems: Experience with lithium ion battery packs and charging systems.
- Connectivity: Experience working with wired and/or wireless communication protocols.
- Machine Control Technologies: Experience in developing embedded systems to drive loads such as motors, pumps and fans. Experience in developing sensor-based product features with infrared, ultrasonic, capacitive, or RF sensing technologies.
- User Interface Technologies: Experience in developing embedded user interfaces including technologies such as LCD display, LED lighting, capacitive touch, and audio.
- Robotics: Understanding of automation and navigation technologies. Experience in developing feedback control systems and related algorithms. Vision systems a plus.
- Systems Engineering: Experience in defining electronic systems using systems engineering principles and SysML modeling tools
- Six Sigma: Black belt certification or similar experience in structured problem solving, experimental design, and process improvement
