Company: STR

Location: Woburn, MA 01801

Description:

STR is focused on delivering National Defense capabilities by driving mission-focused strategies to develop advanced technology systems enabling enduring products and solutions focused on achieving the customer vision. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes. We consider the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.

STR is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of electro-mechanical hardware for applications such as advanced multi-function Radar systems and unmanned systems.

In this role, you will be expected to understand and implement requirements as they apply to electro-mechanical hardware. You will be involved with ensuring hardware moves through the entire life-cycle, from conceptualization, through design and fabrication, to integration and test, and ultimately delivery. This will require application of 3D CAD design, generation of detailed documentation, conducting supporting tests and analyses such as structural, vibration, shock, and thermal, identification/specification of components and vendors, and assembly of hardware (test systems, prototypes, and deliverable units). Since the systems developed are deployed in operationally relevant environments, the hardware you develop needs to meet standards of quality, maintainability, and reuse.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills and expertise in areas such as: design, analysis, prototyping, manufacturing, and test & evaluation. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, design, development, and test activities, as well as proficiency in relevant technologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required. Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, detail oriented and have ability to effectively communicate.

What you will do:
  • Interface with the broader hardware team (e.g. electrical, RF) to ensure complete and proper implementation of systems requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and specifications as they relate to assigned tasking
  • Lead efforts to design and implement hardware designs and support assembly, integration, and testing. Activities may include:
    • Decomposition of needs and definition of requirements
    • Creation of detailed 3D CAD (SolidWorks and PDM) models and associated documentation appropriate for fabrication and assembly (e.g. detailed drawings, bill-of-materials)
    • Conducting analyses (Finite element and "back-of-the-envelope") for structural, shock, vibration, and thermal mitigation
    • Identification/specification of components and vendors
  • Near term tasking may be related to RF systems for airborne applications, but you may be tasked on other applications as needed

Who you are:
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government
  • Experience using SolidWorks to create 3D designs and associated documentation for fabrication and assembly
  • Expertise with structural, vibration, shock, and thermal analyses using ANSYS
  • Experience with designing to meet specifications, (e.g. compliance with MIL-STD-810)
  • Experience with integration and test activities
  • Demonstrated desire to successfully pursue new challenges, improve and broaden technical skills, seek greater responsibilities, and increase individual value to the organization
  • Capable of effectively working in a team environment, often under tight deadlines
  • Experience in providing information for technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS).
  • Background should include a Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of applicable experience; Master's degree and at least 3 years applicable experience, or PhD. Equivalent experience will be considered

Nice to have:
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance
