Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator - Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, implement, and maintain moderately complex databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering and testing computer databases, applying expert knowledge of database management systems, and coordinating changes to databases while ensuring robust integration of systems. This role will also involve planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard databases in alignment with best practices and compliance standards. An active Top Secret clearance is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain moderately complex databases, ensuring efficient performance and data integrity.
  • Develop and maintain database dictionaries and manage the integration of systems through effective database design.
  • Administer databases, ensuring availability, consistency, and security, and conduct testing to ensure they meet performance standards.
  • Coordinate and implement changes to databases, including schema modifications, optimization tasks, and database migrations.
  • Plan and implement security measures to safeguard databases from unauthorized access, ensuring compliance with security policies and industry best practices.
  • Monitor database performance, diagnose issues, and implement solutions to maintain system stability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate databases into larger systems, ensuring data consistency and optimizing data flows.
  • Conduct backup and recovery operations, ensuring data protection and disaster recovery procedures are in place.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on database-related issues, serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for internal teams.
  • Support and document database configurations, system changes, and performance tuning.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in database administration, with strong expertise in database management systems.
  • Active Top Secret clearance is required.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
  • Strong proficiency in database security practices, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • Extensive experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in backup and recovery operations and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience with database integration and data migration in complex IT environments.
  • Strong understanding of database scripting languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL) and system-level programming.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, NoSQL databases, Spark).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for database management.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, FIPS) relevant to database management in secure environments.
  • Previous experience in government or defense database environments is a plus.
