FIRE INSPECTOR

IN THE DIVISION OF FIRE

GENERAL INFORMATION

Written Examinations for the position of Fire Inspector in the Division of Fire, will be administered Friday, June 6th, 2025 at 10:00 am at City Hall in the Council Chambers.

A written test, consisting of 100 true/false, modified true/false, multiple choice questions and questions based on comparative statements will be the ranking test element. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel after a list has been established.

Applications will be available at 9:00 AM online at the City Hall on April 15th, 2025 and all applications must be filed between 9:00 am Monday, April 15th and 3:00 pm Friday, Friday, April 25th, at the Human Resources Office. The Fire Inspector position holds the equivalent rank of Lieutenant. Eligible applicants must have served for at least 84 months with the Cleveland Heights Fire Department. Must be State certified as a Fire Safety Inspector within one year of promotion.

The minimum passing grade on the written examination will be 70%. In addition to the written examination, points will be awarded for seniority in the Fire Service and added to a minimum passing grade, according to the following schedule:

Years 1 - 4:1 point for each year

.5 point of any year or more during the first 4 years

Years 5 - 14: .6 point for each year

.3 point for any year or more during the 5 - 14 years

3 bonus points awarded for current and valid Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification.
Maximum:10 bonus points

5. When two or more candidates have received the same total score, the person with the greater seniority in the Division shall have priority. If the candidates have the same total score and the same seniority points, then the candidate first filing the application shall have priority.
6. Candidates arriving later than the posted times for either the written or interview portion of the process will be excluded from participation and therefore ineligible for placement on the Civil Service list.
7. Test material will be selected from the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association (OFCA) December 2016 Written Testing Book List and N include the following three books and sources:
