Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
We are seeking a talented and motivated Electrical Controls Engineer to join our team. This position is pivotal for process improvement, cost reduction, and capital expansion projects. You will manage the electrical and controls scope of assigned projects, actively participate in project teams, and provide technical support for our plant's diverse control systems to ensure smooth daily manufacturing operations.

The range for this position is $88,059.00 - $121,082.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.

You will manage the electrical and controls scope of assigned projects, actively participate in project teams, and provide technical support for our plant's diverse control systems to ensure smooth daily manufacturing operations.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of critical process and technical requirements. Identify technical risks, conduct prototype/feasibility testing, and document system design specifications.
- Recommend and implement long-term solutions for recurring equipment performance issues. Contribute to capital and facilities plans for equipment upgrades or maintenance cycles.
- Collaborate with IT and process engineers to define analog and digital channel requirements, control sequence logic, fail-safe states, and process/equipment recovery sequences.
- Design and scale control solutions by replicating existing equipment designs.
- Specify and integrate field devices for flow control, material handling, motion control, temperature control, and safety systems into functional equipment platforms.
- Provide technical expertise in electrical and controls engineering for fiber optic cable manufacturing to support production, maintenance, continuous improvement, and cost reduction.
- Offer support for maintenance requirements exceeding electrical associate capabilities. Address process fluctuations and equipment issues by interfacing with operators and team leaders.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (other degrees considered with relevant work experience).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant field.
- Skills:
- PLC programming experience (preferably AB Studio 5000).
- Expertise in designing, configuring, and implementing HMI/SCADA programming (preferably GE iFix).
- Programming proficiency in ladder logic, structured text, and function block.
- Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, control systems integration, and safety standards (e.g., NFPA79).
Desired Skills
- Strong project management skills.
- Knowledge of cable manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Experience with MES systems, VB.NET, and PI Data Historian.
- Familiarity with Beckhoff PLCs and OSI PI interface.
- Understanding of industrial electrical distribution and NEC safety regulations.
