Job Summary/Description:
WMC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Memphis, TN seeks a News Director to lead our award-winning news department. The successful candidate will bring an established record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a newsroom team rooted in strong journalism and innovation. Candidates will have examples of creative approaches to cross-platform content creation as well as a history of managing financial, technical, and human resources. You will be called upon to provide strategic direction for daily news coverage, as well as work closely with the General Manager on long-range planning, and station initiatives and be able to demonstrate a history of cross-functional collaboration.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrated success recruiting, coaching, and developing talent, with a passion for providing consistent, constructive feedback.
- Strong analytical skills, capable of leveraging complex data to inform and refine content, coverage, and distribution strategies.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives with measurable tactics to drive sustained audience growth.
- Experience leading news content creation and management, fostering a collaborative and positive workplace culture that empowers individual and team excellence.
- Collaborative approach, working closely with the Director of Marketing to develop effective long-term and short-term marketing strategies aligned with newsroom objectives.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Five years of previous experience in newsroom leadership is required, as well as strong communication and organizational skills
- A degree in journalism or Mass Communications is preferred
- Candidate must successfully complete pre-employment screening
- Ability to work closely with other station department heads and fellow managers within the company
- Ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks
