The Opportunity
Handling surety and commercial insurance construction claims, including investigating, analyzing, setting reserves, approving payments, settling claims, and retaining and providing direction to counsel or any other vendor partners. Providing support for the surety and commercial insurance construction underwriting teams.

The Opportunity
Handling surety and commercial insurance construction claims, including investigating, analyzing, setting reserves, approving payments, settling claims, and retaining and providing direction to counsel or any other vendor partners. Providing support for the surety and commercial insurance construction underwriting teams.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include:
- Handle a variety of types of bond claims and notices, including but not limited to labour and material bond claims, performance bond claims and customs bond claims
- Handle a variety of third-party commercial insurance construction claims
- Work closely with surety and commercial insurance construction underwriting teams across the country as a national resource in helping them navigate the complexities of construction related segments
- Review bond wordings, construction contracts, terms, financial statements, job cost reports, policy wordings and various other claims and underwriting documentation
- Conduct coverage analyses for commercial construction claims
- Investigate claims or manage the claims investigation for surety and commercial insurance construction claims, and develop and enact strategies to manage complex surety and construction claims issues
- Assess damages, financial exposure and potential recoveries and recommend claim payments or denials
- Develop strategies for claim resolution and claims management
- Contact and respond to inquiries from claimants, principals, Insureds, reinsurers and other clients concerning bond claims and commercial construction claims
- Provide excellent customer service to our bond principals, indemnitors, obligees, owners, Insureds, and brokers throughout the claims process
- Provide direction and align closely with outside counsel
- Identify trends in claims to support underwriting decisions and risk mitigation strategies
- Provide advice to surety underwriters with respect to indemnities and other documents
Who You Are
The ideal candidate will have a unique combination of education and experience including:
- Preferred: Law degree - LL.B or J.D. or Peng
- Minimum 5 years of experience in handling surety claims
- Experience working on a surety claims team within the Insurance industry
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills
- Knowledge in multiple lines of business; professional and financial lines, commercial, warranty, auto etc.
- Superior organizational and analytical skills; demonstrates ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- understanding of construction accounting and job costing.
- Strong knowledge of construction procurement and project management.
