The Senior Manager, Grid Modernization will support the overall vision, leadership, and management of EPE's Grid Modernization department. This includes collaborating on the department's strategic and technical direction, helping identify opportunities for new or expanded services, contributing to operational and financial performance targets, and assisting with business development efforts to scale our organization. You'll also be responsible for managing and mentoring a high-performing team-cultivating a positive culture, encouraging professional growth, and championing EPE's core values.

The Senior Manager, Grid Modernization will support the overall vision, leadership, and management of EPE's Grid Modernization department. This includes collaborating on the department's strategic and technical direction, helping identify opportunities for new or expanded services, contributing to operational and financial performance targets, and assisting with business development efforts to scale our organization. How you can make an impact:
Strategic & Technical Vision
- Contribute to the development and refinement of a long-term roadmap for the Grid Modernization department, aligning with emerging industry trends, stakeholder needs, and EPE's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate on new and existing service offerings in DER Integration, grid resiliency, and advanced distribution system operations (e.g., Flexible Interconnection, Virtual Power Plants, Distribution System Operator (DSO) strategies).
- Support thought leadership efforts, staying updated on cutting-edge technologies, contributing to industry forums, and helping champion EPE's vision at conferences and events.
- Provide technical guidance to the team on advanced DER Integration services-e.g., strategic roadmapping, Locational Value of DER, Microgrids, Digital Twins, Volt-Var Optimization, DERMS, AMDS, etc.
- Partner with leadership to guide resiliency initiatives, including risk determination, mitigation evaluations, resiliency planning, and integrated distribution system planning.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments like Business Development, Software Solutions, and Executive Leadership to ensure alignment between strategic objectives and day-to-day operations.
Organizational Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop an engineering team, providing clear direction, regular feedback, and accountability for on-time project deliveries.
- Oversee performance management, setting measurable goals that align with organizational objectives and supporting structured career development paths.
- Foster a collaborative culture through open communication, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement in technical and professional skills.
- Promote high morale by recognizing achievements, celebrating milestones, and maintaining an inclusive, supportive environment.
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding top engineering talent, ensuring the team has the necessary skills and capacity for both current and future demands.
Operational Excellence
- Support oversight of the department's financial performance (P&L), helping develop and maintain revenue and profit forecasts to align with organizational goals.
- Help establish project management frameworks, ensuring initiatives meet or exceed scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Evaluate and streamline team efficiency by adopting best practices, refining processes, and standardizing tools for consistent, high-quality outcomes.
- Oversee quality assurance for client deliverables, implementing thorough review processes to mitigate risk and maintain industry-leading standards.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success, identify trends, and proactively recommend corrective actions for performance gaps.
- Assess resource needs in consultation with senior leadership, ensuring the right mix of skill sets to balance near-term project demands with longer-term growth.
Business Development & Client Relationships
- Collaborate with the Business Development team by participating in client meetings, providing technical and strategic insights that address client challenges and support project success.
- Identify new market opportunities and help develop targeted strategies for expanding EPE's services in key growth areas.
- Contribute to proposals and RFP responses, highlighting EPE's unique value proposition and coordinating with cross-functional teams to deliver compelling pitches.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to existing clients, nurturing strong relationships and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Represent EPE at industry events, conferences, and forums, showcasing our thought leadership in grid modernization and facilitating strategic connections.
Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what's needed:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or a related field)
- 5+ years of experience in Power Systems Planning, with a strong focus on Distribution and DER (Distributed Energy Resources).
- 2+ year of leadership experience (formal or informal), demonstrating the ability to guide teams toward achieving objectives.
- Robust technical knowledge of DER integration, interconnection standards, and grid modernization topics, with the ability to evaluate new solutions and drive innovation.
- Familiarity with advanced grid modernization solutions-such as Flexible Interconnection (Flex IX), Locational Value of DER (LVDER), DSO (Distribution System Operator) strategies, DERMS, etc.-and the ability to translate these technologies into viable services.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, enabling you to effectively interface with clients, external vendors, cross-functional teams, and executive leadership.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to anticipate industry trends and adapt organizational strategies accordingly.
- Proven ability to lead through influence, building relationships and cultivating buy-in across diverse internal and external stakeholder groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; a PE license or other relevant professional certification is a plus.
- 3+ years of leadership experience, with proven capabilities in team-building, mentorship, and strategic planning at a department or organizational level.
- Prior Profit & Loss (P&L) management experience, including budget forecasting, cost optimization, and revenue growth.
- Business development experience, especially in identifying market opportunities and forging strategic partnerships that drive organizational expansion.
