Position Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for providing comprehensive accounting, financial analysis, and compliance support for a large and complex portfolio of government (federal, state, local) and privately funded grants as well as SDWP provided sub-recipient awards. This role ensures highly accurate financial monitoring and reporting, adherence to applicable regulations, and effective management of grant funds. The Senior Grant Accountant operates within the Finance Department, collaborating closely with other Departmental leadership, funders and external partners to ensure obligations are met. This position also requires the ability to produce ad hoc reporting by utilizing large data sets, performing analysis for ROI, lease management, and support of capital planning where appropriate.

Essential Functions
  • Monitor and review grant expenses and allocations to ensure compliance with grant terms and organizational policies.
  • Analyze grant spending to identify trends, variances, and potential risks, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare, monitor, and analyze grant budgets, providing regular financial updates to program and management teams.
  • Responsible for the integrity of financial reporting in accordance with Uniform guidance and single audit standards.
  • In collaboration with departmental management, monitor time and effort reporting to ensure personnel costs are appropriately documented for funder compliance across a diverse portfolio of grants.
  • Maintain regular update of Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) and Schedule of Grant Awards including for the preparation and updating of the annual Audit.
  • Collaborate with Department leadership to develop and revise budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with program goals and sponsor requirements.
  • Under supervision of CFO, serve as fiscal liaison for all program audits across all funding sources (federal, state, county, city and private).
  • In collaboration with Finance Department staff, produce annual projections and grant related budgeting of revenues and expenses.
  • Reconcile grant accounting records through thorough review of drawdowns and monitoring of cash flow for corresponding grants.
  • Work closely with program directors and grant administrators to ensure all required documentation, reporting, and financial closeouts are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all grant revenue is appropriately captured in financial records and recovery of costs is accurately recorded and reported.
  • Support Executives and department leadership with the development of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders and ensure they are accurate, reconciled to the general ledger and provided to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with all departments necessary to ensure that financial processes and services are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Job Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business management or related field.
    • Minimum five (5) years of experience with monitoring fiscal compliance of federally funded and other non-profit grants.
    • Minimum five (5) years' federal and private grant accounting experience in a government or non-profit setting.
    • Advanced knowledge of grant budgeting, financial reporting, and program fiscal compliance.
    • Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, uniform guidance and federal grant regulations.
    • Advanced knowledge of allowable expenses to ensure program specific compliance requirements.
    • Advanced Excel skills (to include pivot tables, sums, VLOOKUPs, and macros) and financial modeling.
    • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail to ensure accuracy, great problem solving and time management skills.
    • Computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    Fundamental Requirements
    • Master's degree in accounting or finance.
    • A combination of government or nonprofit background gained in a complex environment.
    • CPA or CMA Certification.
    • Understanding of fund accounting.
    • Knowledge of finance related IT systems used by SDWP: MIP, ADP, Euna Budget, Salesforce.
    • Ability to identify and implement process improvements.

Compensation for this position ranges from $32.69-$44.45.

    In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position. If you are hired at San Diego Workforce Partnership, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
