ABOUT THE JOB:The Deschutes County Road Department is accepting applications for an Engineering Associate. This position performs engineering, surveying and inspection work in the investigation, location, design, and construction of engineering projects under the direction of the Engineering Services Manager.

Compensation
$6,444.61 to $8,225.77 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

- Coordinates activities of Engineering Division in construction inspection, utility inspection, bridge inspection, and permit issuing.
- Analyzes and enforces County specifications and ordinances as related to contract projects and utility work.
- Analyzes data and prepares reports in roadway hazard inventory and drainage inventory programs.
- Carries out all inspections, reporting, record keeping and enforcement procedures required on construction projects.
- Uses the County's software that applies to construction inspection and reporting, including payment sheets and cost estimating with spreadsheets.
Knowledge of or experience with:
- Principles, practices and techniques of basic civil engineering, construction, and surveying.
- Checking designs, details, estimates, plans, and specifications of engineering projects.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
