At Amazon, the Recipient Experience (REX) team's mission is to provide a transparent and flexible post purchase experience that customers love. REX owned properties (for example - Your Orders, Progress Tracker, Order Details, Product Owner Page, Order Confirmation email etc.) are highly visible and trafficked destinations for our end customers. In REX, you will join a highly technical and entrepreneurial culture defining and building highly resilient and massive scale distributed systems that are used by over a billion customers worldwide everyday.
This is a Software development manager role leading a team of highly talented engineers / other managers in Your Orders & Federation Platform. This is a key platform under the Recipient Experience (REX) org that owns and powers post purchase properties like Your Orders, Order Details, Order history search and Product owner page. The federation platform powers all the post purchase properties inclusive of all Email, SMS and Push Notifications to all our customers globally for variety of use-cases (e.g. Order Confirmation email, Ship Confirmation email). The federation platform also enables hundreds of teams across Amazon Stores (working in away team capacity) to be autonomous and independently own their business logic.
A successful candidate will have an established track record building successful teams and developing complex distributed software systems, a keen technical aptitude, excellent project management skills, solid communication skills, and be driven to achieve results in a fast paced environment. The candidate will also have high results in hiring and developing leaders across multiple teams, have strong skills in analyzing and improving software development processes, and are highly customer focused and passionate about solving complex business and technical problems.

This position involves driving regular communication with the leadership including directors, VPs both within and outside of REX. Responsibilities include management of the members of the software engineering team including senior engineers, delivering on organizational goals, strategic planning, and building on an already productive and innovative software team. This position will also support critical contributions to a massive redesign of post purchase experience and re-architecting our systems to be more modular and federated to enable rapid experimentations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
