About the Department
The Budget Office operates under the leadership of the Budget Director who reports to the City Manager. Supported by a staff of 19, the Office is responsible for all functions associated with the development and monitoring of San Jos's budget for over 135 funds (General Fund, Special Funds, and Capital Funds) in alignment with the goals of the City Council. Budget staff are responsible for preparing and publishing all budget documents, forecasting revenues, and, on a regular basis, performing analysis of budget and/or service-level related issues, and supporting performance measures tracking and data-driven service delivery. The Budget Office has a dynamic action-oriented culture that offers flexibility within a mutually supportive and cooperative environment, working with colleagues across departments to resolve complex fiscal issues. Position Duties
This recruitment is intended to fill one permanent Analyst I/II position.

The Budget Analyst position in the City Manager's Office is responsible for operating and/or capital budgetary analysis assignments for a City Service Area (CSA) and several City departments, including assisting their assigned CSA/departments in the development of their operating/capital budgets; analysis of revenue and expenditure projections; coordination and presentation of budget information to the City Manager as appropriate; preparation of the City's annual Operating and/or Capital Budgets, Annual Report, Mid-Year Budget Review, and Fees and Charges Report; review of budget-related departmental requests; collaboration with departments to resolve budgetary issues; review of City Council memoranda for budget implications and appropriate budget language, if necessary; supporting performance measures tracking; conducting research on budget and policy-related matters; and special projects as assigned. During critical times of the year, this position will be expected to work overtime, both weeknights and weekends, for the preparation and release of several key budget documents.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience

Analyst I
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Analyst II
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience conducting studies, organizing and analyzing data, and preparing reports, recommendations, or conclusions for a functional area in budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration, or human resources.

Acceptable Substitution
Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Staff Specialist with the City of San Jos in areas such as budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration or human resources may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Problem Solving - Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue; determines the significance of problem; collects information; uses logic and intuition to arrive at decisions or solutions to problems that achieve the desired outcome.

Important Information
Please be aware that the City currently has a hybrid work environment and this position will be required to be onsite at least four days per week. This position will also be assigned a laptop by the City with all software and software access required to perform the assigned duties remotely. This position will be required to have/provide their own internet connectivity and other requirements as specified in the City's to be able to fully perform their responsibilities remotely.
