We are looking for a Principal Program Manager, Amazon Health Services (AHS) Patient Safety to join us on our journey to make it drastically easier for customers to find, choose, afford, and engage with the services, products, and professionals they need to get and stay healthy!
This leader is tasked with the development, management, and oversight of all AHS Patient Safety programs. This role will define the vision, short-term strategy, and long-term strategy for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care across AHS. They will lead the implementation of robust safety measures and the execution of quality improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the organization. The successful candidate must be able to translate risk based quality improvement investigations into technical requirements for Amazon tech teams. The long term aim of this role is to develop unified quality and safety performance standards across AHS businesses, creating competitive advantages that benefit our customers and payors.
Key job responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the strategic short and long-term vision for patient safety initiatives aligned with the company's mission and goals.
Investigation: Oversee the event reporting process, root cause analysis, and event investigation/review. Prepares and presents informative and actionable patient safety reports (to include patient's story of harm) to appropriate leaders.
Product Development: Develop and run a safety product development lifecycle. Take the results of safety investigations and translate them into technical requirements to be built by AHS tech teams.
Program Management: Design, implement, and oversee quality improvement programs to enhance patient care, optimize clinical outcomes, and minimize medical errors.
Communications: Supports the Quality and Safety team in sharing clinical quality and safety best practices within and outside AHS businesses. Drives strategic product communications internally and externally.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Develop proactive strategies to mitigate risk across all aspects of healthcare operations.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to assess performance metrics, identify trends, and generate reports to guide decision-making processes for quality enhancement.
Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, conduct training programs, and foster a culture of patient-centered care and safety awareness.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership experience
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare quality management, with 5 years in a leadership capacity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Clinical Qualification (RN, ARNP, PA, MD)
- Amazon Experience or equivalent experience in managing business cadence and delivering on tight timelines.
- History of working with clinicians/clinician executives as this role will require building relationships with clinician executives across the industry
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $206,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
