New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Senior Engineer to provide the necessary engineering expertise to identify, plan, design, coordinate, implement and manage multiple construction projects associated with natural gas distribution, transmission or regulator station facilities. Manage the project scope, schedule, budgets and subcontractors. Ensure that design and construction activities comply with all federal/state regulations and company standards, while providing the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas service to new and existing customers affected by projects.

Major Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and timely work orders to facilitate the design and development of appropriate operating pressure requirements for both new and existing main installations.
- Prepare accurate and timely labor and material cost estimates for all work orders.
Prepare construction drawings that precisely depict proposed and completed changes in the distribution and transmission systems. - Perform effective personal inspections of potential job sites to develop an understanding of actual field conditions and the possible effect they may have on system design and construction logistics.
- Design new systems to provide adequate supplies of gas to new customers, including developments and commercial accounts.
- Effectively represent the Company at pre-construction meetings, maintain accurate minutes of these meetings, and promote general safety and economic construction standards in the best interest of the Company.
- Effectively review construction plans for all roadway projects to determine areas of conflict, to minimize the Company's financial exposure.
- Oversee the corporate transmission and distribution systems, troubleshooting any abnormalities, and offer technical advice and assistance to the Distribution, Gas Control, and PMT departments to provide safe, reliable, adequate, and economic service.
- Evaluate the effects that large volume commercial and industrial customers (PSI's) and large developments (Cost Out Requests) will have on the transmission and distribution system and recommend necessary reinforcements to assure adequate system capacity and pressure.
- Design detailed meter sets for large volume commercial and industrial customers, which require elevated delivery pressure in a safe, yet economical manner.
- Assist the marketing and distribution departments in field inspecting customer complaints concerning meter sets and recommends solution to resolve problem in an expeditious manner.
- Prepare and obtain all necessary voucher checks and all applicable state, county, and municipal permits, and prepare work order and drawings for each installation.
- Lend technical advice to the Distribution, Construction Services, PMT, and Gas Control departments for information not specifically addressed in the Company's Construction Standards Manual and for non-stock items.
- Responsible for technical projects such as railroad, submarine and bridge crossings, which require the use and application of engineering knowledge and principles.
- Completely design and control large bid projects.
- Prepare bid documents, including engineering data, write job specifications, obtain all necessary permits and approvals, schedule pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, manage alliance and/or bid contractors, monitor construction activity, receive field reports from inspector, act upon construction conflicts to minimize Contractor's additional work charges on projects.
- Establish formal procedures to upgrade mains to higher operating pressures as required by Federal Safety Standards.
- Lend technical support to the Company's Standards Committee.
- Obtain permits from State Department of Environmental Protection, County Soil Conservation Districts, US Army Corps of Engineers, Pinelands Commission, Coastal Area Facilities Review Act, and other jurisdictional bodies which require detailed engineering reports.
- Develop Environmental Impact Studies and Traffic Control Plans for large Bid Projects as required.
- Serve in an advisory capacity to corporate committees planning, studying, evaluating, and recommending long-range capital improvements and major system reinforcements.
- Recommend methods and materials for repairs to transmission and distribution facilities.
- Stay abreast of technical changes and innovations that may lead to improvements in the transmission and distribution system by researching journals, books, periodicals, etc.
- Work with division supervisors to prioritize pending rehabilitation work to ensure public safety in the most economical manner.
- Mentor and train fellow engineers and employees of lesser experience.
- Any other duties and responsibilities determined appropriate by department management.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college is required, preferably civil or mechanical.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably in public utility engineering or related field, is required.
- Proven project management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS required.
- License as a Professional Engineer is desired.
