The Planner III, Capacity Planning is responsible for developing and maintaining the capacity plans in VSY shipyards through Shipyard AI for ongoing programs by leading and collaborating with various key stakeholders in Vancouver Shipyard such as Operations, Planning, PMO, SCM, Facility, Engineering. The role will also be involved in developing the Capacity Plan of future and bidding programs and running critical planning assessments in terms of Workstation capacity perspective and provide meaningful planning insights to the Senior Leadership Team by aligning business goals. The role will directly report to the Senior Manager, Planning & Scheduling.

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do
  • Utilizes build strategy output (block breakdown, erection sequence, zone definition, and block, grand block and test strategies) to develop Capacity plan to deliver the overall Project plan as per the contractual requirements and/or the business direction.
  • Lead the critical capacity planning assessments and scenario studies in SAI to come out with meaningful results, prepare the deck with an appropriate visualization, and lead the meeting with key stakeholders.
  • Continually develop standard Blocks, Modules and Grand blocks durations and labour requirements to be used on future project planning and new business development.
  • Produces a weekly movement plan in line with the major moves of Blocks, Grand Blocks, and Modules for the entire Stage of Construction as needed.
  • Liaises with the lifting and turning team to ensure that the amount of steelwork and early outfit can be moved and/or turned as required in line with the plan.
  • Liaises with Operations team to ensure the developed capacity plan have aligned with the floor level planning.
  • Liaises with Resource Planning team to ensure that the duration of each activity has credibility and implemented properly into SAI for capacity planning assessments.
  • Liaises with Master Scheduling team to ensure the schedule in SAI has been properly implemented into IMS without any discrepancy, and the left driven PPTF availability has been considered properly into the Cap Plan.
  • Develops the detail L3 and L4 schedule in MS Project format to support the rolling wave planning process.
  • Develops the major outsourcing strategies of Block/VIMs by collaborating with Design Build and SCM.
  • Develops and maintains the meaningful Capacity Plan metrics to provide the best insight of ongoing programs performance to the key stakeholders and Canada.

What you'll bring
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • 10 years experiences in Shipbuilding and with 3 years of experience in planning is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of shipbuilding operations with a detailed understanding of the relationship between procurement, design, production and test operations.
  • Shipbuilding Planning and scheduling experience with Shipyard AI is mandatory, while Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project experience will be an asset.
  • Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including ShipConstructor (preferred) and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of how an ERP system works and supports a large manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of EVMS principles and their application in monitoring, reporting and controlling work activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong commitment to the business deadline of critical deliverables.

The estimated salary for this position is $99,000- $121,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
