Job Title: Nurse Manager
Job Specialty: Emergency Department
Job Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Evenings - 4 PM to 12 AM, 5x8 Exempt Position
Guaranteed Hours: 40.00
Experience: Minimum of five years of nursing experience in management and/or supervision in the Emergency Department
License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, & PALS
Must-Have: Emergency Department experience
Job Description:
- Assume 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the Emergency Department.
- Oversee and direct the Emergency Department, planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care.
- Foster an environment of collaboration and respect among healthcare team members.
- Provide weekend and holiday coverage as necessary in the Nurse Manager role.
- Develop long-term unit staffing schedules to ensure adequate daily coverage according to staffing needs.
- Measure and monitor unit operational performance, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of department employees.
- Promote and support a collaborative team approach to care for all Emergency Department and trauma patients.
- Support and interpret hospital policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement plans to improve them.
- Monitor patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain departmental information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints or concerns.
- Maintain required competencies for self and department employees.
- Participate in a professional organization.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish and evaluate nursing care standards.
- Identify protocols affecting the patient population and inform nursing staff.
- Maintain a safe environment conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance.
- Ensure equal access to treatment for all persons, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
- Participate in overall service planning.
- Conduct monthly meetings addressing equipment, scheduling, goals, and staff concerns.
- Educate and evaluate staff; collaborate with Human Resources for counseling, discipline, and termination if needed.
- Educate staff on new and existing department procedures and systems.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy.
- Demonstrate leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Handle complex situations and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
