Job Summary:
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Operations is a key member of Barnard's leadership, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Strategy and Chief Administrative Officer (EVP). Serving as a strategic partner and operational leader, the AVP supports the advancement of the College's strategic priorities and the operations of the College in collaboration with leaders in Information Technology, Human Resources, Facilities, and CARES: Community Safety and Emergency Response.
The AVP will lead in the EVP's absence and work collaboratively with campus partners to advance operational effectiveness across the College.
The AVP plays a critical role in translating presidential and institutional priorities into actionable plans and measurable outcomes. They will manage strategic initiatives, oversee reporting and accountability structures, and ensure alignment between emerging priorities and the College's long-term vision.

This position is expected to be primarily in-person on Barnard's campus in Morningside Heights, with flexibility in accordance with College policy and operational needs.
Salary Range: $225,000 - $235,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Job Description:
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Coordination
- Serve as acting lead for the division in the absence of the EVP.
- Manage staff when assigned, including leads of operational functions when assigned by the EVP.
- Partner with senior leads across key operational functions-IT, HR, Facilities, and Safety-to ensure alignment and execution of strategic and operational goals.
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional task forces and special project teams that advance presidential priorities.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and progress plans that track outcomes across operational departments in the division.
- Operationalization of Strategic Plan
- Operationalize initiatives from the College's priorities, translating goals into concrete projects with clear deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with campus partners to ensure strategic priorities are embedded in committee work, resource allocation, and daily operations.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress against strategic goals.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and progress plans that track outcomes and share results transparently with the community.
- Board & Executive Support
- Prepare reports and presentations for the Board of Trustees, College leadership, and other key stakeholders.
- Provide strategic counsel and support to the EVP, especially during times of institutional change, crisis response, or organizational transitions.
- Change Management & Operational Effectiveness
- Champion and support change management efforts related to college-wide operational effectiveness.
- Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, including defining roles and responsibilities, and driving results in collaboration with campus partners.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Higher Education, or related field strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven institutions.
- Demonstrated experience in operations, strategy implementation, project management, and cross-functional leadership.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a track record of developing KPIs and performance dashboards.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and deliver results on time and within scope.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing materials for senior leadership and boards.
- Strong understanding of change management principles and best practices.
- Collaborative leadership style with an emphasis on building relationships, driving consensus, and fostering community engagement.
