This Senior Corporate Counsel will be responsible for providing business counseling to Opella's North American business unit. The role includes advising on new product innovation, review of advertising and promotional materials across all product categories, as well as supporting commercial contracting across the NA organization. This role requires a strategic thinker who is comfortable assessing and advising on risk and engaging with colleagues at all levels of the organization, as well as professionals outside the organization, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills.

$148,125.00 - $213,958.33

This Senior Corporate Counsel will be responsible for providing business counseling to Opella's North American business unit. The role includes advising on new product innovation, review of advertising and promotional materials across all product categories, as well as supporting commercial contracting across the NA organization. This role requires a strategic thinker who is comfortable assessing and advising on risk and engaging with colleagues at all levels of the organization, as well as professionals outside the organization, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Main Responsibilities:
- Reviewing, analyzing, and providing legal feedback and risk assessment on packaging, labeling, and promotional materials for over-the-counter drug products, medical devices, dietary supplements, and cosmetics.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial and industrial legal agreements, ensuring compliance with laws, and protecting client interests throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Reviewing and advising on innovation concepts, business development opportunities, new routes to market or channels (e.g., off-line/online/DTC, etc.), based on applicable laws and regulations.
- Managing competitive challenge issues, including challenges before the National Advertising Division, and supporting active litigation matters.
- Strategic day-to-day counseling including providing risk mitigation solutions and contract support for Marketing, Regulatory, Medical, Consumer Insights, R&D, Sales, and Industrial Affairs.
- Collaborating on potential M&A transactions in the Consumer Healthcare space working together with other relevant Global Functional Teams.
- Ensuring clients are kept abreast of new legal developments, such as new laws, regulations, or relevant legal precedent.
- Managing and working closely with external counsel on relevant contracting, regulatory, or litigation matters.
- Interfacing with external industry groups / trade associations and key stakeholders, including: Medical, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, Procurement, as well as colleagues in Global Legal functions.
About You
- A minimum of a JD is required.
- License must be active and in good standing
- A minimum of 6 years+ professional legal experience, with a minimum of 2+ years within the Pharma/Life Sciences or Consumer Goods industry is required.
- Past experience at a law firm is highly preferred for this position
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Nimble and flexible approach to work, being able to pivot among diverse projects with different stakeholders across the business.
- Familiarity with the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and the federal regulatory scheme that supports legal sale and marketing of over-the-counter drug products, medical devices, dietary supplements, and cosmetics.
- Experience with advertising law and consumer litigation is a plus.
- Experience with over-the-counter or prescription brand support is a plus.
- Familiarity with state sustainability laws is a plus.
- Willingly assists colleagues in other functions (R&D, Industrial Affairs, Consumer Insights/Market Research) with projects and activities in areas outside of his/her primary areas of responsibility as needed to contribute to a collegial atmosphere.
