You'll be joining our Aurora Software and Controls Department which has 200+ Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, and Network Engineers from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects. This engineering organization supports numerous programs within the Payload and Ground Systems organization. We have plenty of opportunity for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions. Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Engineer and leader to drive the establishment and operation of an AI/ML Center of Excellence. This role will be instrumental in driving technology research, shaping capability development, and steering AI/ML solutions that deliver tangible benefits to our customers. The selected candidate will collaborate across functions, mentor teams, and serve as a thought leader within the organization. This requisition is for a Sr. Staff AI Software Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the establishment of a Center of Excellence focused on AI/ML, defining its vision, mission, and strategic goals. Oversee AI/ML research initiatives, staying abreast of the latest advancements and integrating emerging technologies into actionable strategies. Develop and implement a roadmap for capability development that includes tools, frameworks, and best practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize AI/ML opportunities and solutions aligned with customer needs. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and other relevant professionals. Design and deploy scalable AI/ML models and solutions, ensuring they are robust, reliable, and maintainable. Drive the adoption of AI/ML best practices and help cultivate a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization. Communicate complex technical concepts and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary Range: $227,700.00 - $341,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Basic Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field: Master's with 12+ years of relative experience; PhD + 10 years of relative experience.
- Proven experience (7+ years) in a leadership role within AI/ML research and development
- Strong background in machine learning algorithms, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and related technologies.
- Hands-on experience with ML frameworks and libraries.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or Java.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects from inception to delivery.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with proposal management and reviews.
- Experience presenting complex topics to executives and senior leaders.
- Willingness to be submitted for and obtain/maintain Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a strategic product roadmap, aligning AI goals with business objectives.
- Experience in both Engineering and Project Management, or IPT roles.
- Ability to define technical strategy to promote capturing business in new areas.
- Experience with mission systems including RF and SIGINT domains.
- Current Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
