Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn's Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community.
The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 34 Medical/Surgical beds, 10 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. This position will be expected to start September, 2025.
Overview
Works under the supervision of the Hospital Administrator/VP and RHS System Director of Laboratory Services. Responsible for organizing, planning, directing and evaluating services provided by the outreach, point of care, compliance and/or technical departments. Provides leadership and mentorship/support to the staff needs of the department, including management of day-to-day disciplinary requirements of staff, to include documentation for personnel files. As a clinical expert ensures the provision of competent services by validating staff competency in accordance with standards of excellence, age specific and cultural sensitivity established by the facility goals and strategic plans. In conjunction with the Medical Director and the System Director, director assures compliance with regulatory agencies and undertake special projects as identified. Works through the leadership team to provide administrative oversight and direction in the provision of a comprehensive range of services. Reports all necessary maintenance and/or safety issues as needed.

What you will do
- Oversees the development, review, revision, monitoring and documentation of Quality Management program of the department to ensure acceptable levels of performance are maintained.
- Oversees the development, review, revision, and documentation of performance improvement goals, objectives, policies, procedures in collaboration with Medical Director to assure performance improvement of departmental services provided.
- Coordination and assessment of departmental specific education, training, competency programs to meet the goals, objectives and strategy of services.
- Directs and assures ongoing safety program for the department.
- Ensures compliance with all state, federal and accrediting bodies for participation, licensure and accreditation of the department.
- Collaborates and maintains positive working relationships with physicians, medical staff, providers, and Medical Director to facilitate exceptional patient care.
- Knowledge, understanding, assessment, and evaluation of the technology systems necessary for department operations to improve department efficiencies and patient safety.
- Evaluates and implements purchasing, cost containment, capital and construction activities and projects for assigned areas including, cost analysis, utilization oversight, alignment with goals and service access.
- Facilitates communications intra and inter departmental as well as within the facility and organization to align and improve the quality, safety and services provided.

Experience
- 2 years Previous supervisory experience (Required)
- 5-6 years Laboratory experience (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- American Society For Clinic Pathologist - The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Certification in Cytology; Histology; Medical Technology; or Laboratory Sciences (Required) or
- Medical Technologist (MT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) Certification in Cytology; Histology; Medical Technology; or Laboratory Sciences (Required)
