Annual Salary Range - $84,900 - $120,900

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range DSM expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. This position is also eligible for bonuses and benefits, which are not included in the pay scale provided.

As a Process Engineer (Premix) , you will provide support on continuous improvementand improve plant projects for the PREMIX region North America. The role also supports Production, SHEQ, efficiency improvements and capital projects. The process engineer is responsible for tracking & reporting IMPACT savings (PREMIX NA) and leading the regional LEAN program. Schenectady is the largest site and is a focal point of our three premix manufacturing sites where we blend vitamins and nutrients for the North American Region Health, Nutrition & Care (HNC Premix) as a food manufacturing site.

Responsibilities:
Monitor and optimize production processes, investigate process discrepancies, propose, and test potential solutions. Set up, plan, execute and analyze experiments, report results, and provide recommendations. Risk evaluations on proposed changes (safety and business) for production process changes.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives - use of Lean, 5S, and 6-Sigma approaches and techniques to identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives in our manufacturing operations in support of site safety, waste, quality, and productivity performance. Direct responsibility for cost reduction and streamlining processes.
Lead engineering design portion of capital projects including planning, vendor/supplier evaluation, contracting, commercialization, and hand-off to operations at completion.
Support operations with the production of existing and new products. Interact with production per production personnel to trouble shoot and optimize processes to meet quality standards and plant throughput goals.
Support Root Cause Analyst with investigations and data collection and analysis to determine corrective actions for addressing internal and external complaints.

You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university and 3 years' experience. Experience with Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, equipment reliability preferred. Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer license a plus.
Minimum 3+ years of experience demonstrating Project and Process Engineering skills, preferably in a Food, Dietary Supplement, or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing or Production environment.
Skill- Experience with process data management. Proficient use of MS Office programs, especially Excel, statistical analysis, and project management software. Proficient in AutoCAD (or equiv). Experience with powder handling preferred; experience with spray drying a plus. Proficient writing skills for validation protocols and project documentation. Knowledge and experience working with powder handling systems in a food or pharmaceutical environment or related industry. Knowledge and expertise working with Engineering & Quality tools (statistics, lean six sigma, DFM, DOE) and regulatory pathways (i.e., FDA, ANSI, OSHA, CE, ISO, and ASTM). Working knowledge of electrical wiring schematics; experience with some PLC programming a plus.
Ability -Experience leading cross-functional and diverse project teams; experience leading capital projects. Experience with SAP, Maintenance planning, and purchasing materials a plus. Broad and comprehensive knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, and practices with the ability to use these in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations. Good analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to choose the best solution and solve problems as decisions may have major implications. Understanding of financial / accounting requirements in projects.
Personal Characteristics - Must be capable of working with all levels of coworkers on projects and be able to incorporate their efficiency, ergonomic, and safety concerns into proposed solutions and executed projects. Must possess excellent troubleshooting skills. Must possess effective time management skills with ability at multitasking. Must be capable of thinking and working independently with minimal direction from area and/or other project leadership. Be an individual focused on accuracy, detail orientation, initiative to multi-task with deadlines, flexible can-do attitude, and ability to adjust workload to meet varying schedules.

Able to travel based on assigned projects and training, up to 20%.
