This position is responsible for the direction of survey staff of the office. The Survey Manager must be able to work under minimal supervision while reviewing work done by others as well as preparing, scheduling, and maintaining a budget. Responsibilities include:
Staff Management
1. Ensure the survey staff's general conformance to company policies.
2. Participate in recruiting and interviewing.
3. Participate in planning and outlining staff needs for the future.
4. Mentor and train associates on both technical and business aspects of their projects.
5. Ensure survey staff participation in timely and meaningful reviews with their staff.
6. Ensure continuing education opportunities are provided and used.
Client Management & Business Development
1. Maintain relationships with and procure new work from existing clients
2. Assist BD Group in strategies to establish new relationships and opportunities
3. Assist in preparation of Statements of Qualifications and RFP responses for major projects and potential public sector projects.
Office Management
1. Assist in staff relations, performance evaluations and recommendations
2. Provide input on staffing needs, recruitment and participate in interviews
3. Assist the National Director of Surveying, the Regional Director of Surveying, or the Operations Manager, as necessary, and requested, to ensure:
a. The survey staff is meeting utilization goals.
b. The survey staff is accurately recording effort and timely posting timesheets.
c. The survey staff accurately and timely processes prebills and invoices.
d. The survey staff is controlling their A/R.
e. General contract management for the survey staff (executed contracts and change orders).
f. Minimizing the effort written off (pre and post invoicing) for the survey staff
Qualification Requirements:
10-15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education and/or Experience:
Education as required by the State Licensing Authority
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional Land Surveyor; Valid driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent oral and technical written communication skills
Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Available to work nights and weekends to complete a project as necessary
Ability to make independent decisions within a general framework
Ability to supervise the work of field surveyors and survey technicians
Knowledge of industry related software
Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D; Trimble Business Center and Microsoft Office (if applicable)
Must be fluent in the English language
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
