Job Purpose

The Director of Accounting works collaboratively with the VP of Finance, and the CFO in the financial strategic planning and administration of the Finance Department. The Director of Accounting will oversee payroll, banking, with in-depth knowledge of financial management principles and exhibiting expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise the monthly close process to include journal entry review, monthly financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and payroll.
  • Manage, supervise, and review the activities of the assigned accounting department staff to ensure their work meets goals and performance objectives. Such duties include hiring, training, supervising, performance management, employee relations, recognition and talent management of assigned accounting staff.
  • Supervise and maintain all payroll and bank reporting functions.
  • Ensure systems and functions are configured correctly to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation, input, and reconciliation.
  • Prepare journal entries and review accounting classifications.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis reporting; research variances between actual to budget and actual to prior year actual.
  • Verify budget is categorized appropriately to ensure revenue and expense recording is in proper accounting classification.
  • Prepare monthly operational reporting, prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory and internal control requirements. Accountable for oversight and implementation.
  • Assure protection of the organization's assets through internal controls, internal auditing and proper accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Research and present automated ideas for the department and ultimately implement the conversion.
  • Work collaboratively with the VP of Finance and the CFO in the financial, strategic planning and administration of the organization.
  • Ensure successful completion and submission of the annual 401k audit to include all required schedules are completed accurately and timely for the external auditors.
  • Audit benefit documentation against payroll system master payroll file.
  • Assist leadership with censuses and surveys required to be returned.
  • Review provider payroll, along with quality metrics reporting.
  • Prepare operating data and special reports, including interim financial statements.
  • Coordinate special projects and assignments.
  • Perform Ad hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Work with confidential information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Experience

  • 5+ years of experience with healthcare finance and accounting management to include accounting process and financial statement preparation.
  • 3+ years of management/supervisory experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • MBA/CPA preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Accounting in a medical group setting, preferred
  • Working in a fast paced environment
  • Documenting accounting policies and procedures
  • Census and survey completion
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills with emphasis in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiar with various reporting systems and ability to easily adapt to new accounting software
  • Comfortable working with outside auditors and tax accountants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to present complex information quickly and efficiently.


Work Hours, Travel Requirements

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and as needed to complete projects.
Travel to medical offices may be necessary for the purpose of providing benefit education
