Job Description

The Vice President, Security for NBC News Group will have oversight of all security logistics and physical security operations for NBC News Group, which will include the planning and execution phases of all remote operations domestically and internationally for the News Group, including Telemundo and NBCUniversal Local. This individual reports directly to the Senior Vice President, NBC Media Security, as part of the Global Security Operations team. This individual will manage vendor relationships and ensure the necessary resources, policies, processes, and plans are in place to protect the company's employees, properties, intellectual property, operations and assist with investigations as needed. This position will be based in New York, NY.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work directly with the News Group producers, executives, talent and local staff on all aspects of the planning and execution of security logistics and operations, including, but not limited to, the planning and execution phase of all news remotes domestic and international; This includes assessing the security needs, securing appropriate security vendors, travelling to remotes when required, and conducting after-action reviews to identify lessons learned and greater opportunity for efficiencies
  • Prepare detailed risk assessments for News Group travelers
  • Manage security vendors, including contracts, budgets, invoice processing, and implement Security action plans for NBC News Group; Coordinate all security vendors who operate remotely for News Group and ensure that standard operating procedures are up to date and followed
  • Establish security guidelines and training requirements for News Group employees; coordinate all necessary security related trainings, either as the training facilitator or as a direct liaison with contracted security training vendors
  • Work closely with the NBCU Global Response & Intelligence Center (GRIC) team, Cyber Security team to coordinate and advise on the News Group security needs and develop a regular communication rhythm
  • Assist News Group management (Human Resources, Legal, etc.) with investigations when appropriate
  • Play an active role in representing the Global Security Operations with Business Continuity and Crisis Management teams
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with Local and National law enforcement and emergency response government agencies
  • Direct personal protection support for News Group senior executives and talent, as needed.
  • Provide guidance on the design, development, assessment, and effectiveness of company security policies
  • Assess security risk for News Group people, assets, and properties, by establishing project scope, auditing program design, and the execution of control design and operating effectiveness tests
  • Develop, plan and execute against continued process optimization and quality improvement initiatives, focused on improving functions, quality, and costs including performance vs. standard/best practice initiatives
  • Assist in awareness training and preparation (inclusive of researching and procuring and assigning personal protective equipment) for News Group teams for deployments


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in an operational or strategic leadership role in corporate security, law enforcement, military service, or similar
  • 10+ years of experience managing a global team
  • Prior experience collaborating with leaders from local, state and national-level law enforcement and other government agencies
  • Experience managing a budget and working with vendors
  • Experience with general security concepts and methods such as vulnerability assessments, privacy assessments, executive protection, intrusion detection, incident response, security policy creation, enterprise security strategies, architectures and governance
  • Must be willing to be on call and available 24/7 for emergencies
  • Must be willing to travel, as needed, and at times on short notice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation skills, time management and organizational skills

Desired Qualifications
  • Corporate security experience in the field of news or major event security highly desired
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior level executives and high-profile talent, particularly in the security discipline
  • Successful track record building consensus and influencing senior leadership and stakeholders to implement strategy and achieve results in times that can be fast paced, pressurized, and of high volume
  • Successfully led and managed of a team based locally and remotely
  • Proven ability to manage and maintain confidential information
  • Exceptionally strong multi-tasking skills and proven ability to handle competing priorities under tight deadlines with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to build and sustain excellent relationships, through clear and effective communication, with all levels of management across functions and divisions domestically and internationally
  • Experience establishing and implementing departmental strategy, as well as managing short and long-term projects and developing team members
  • Broad professional experience working as a part of a globally dispersed team is a plus
  • Established project management skills and experience
  • Ability to coordinate several projects and daily responsibilities concurrently
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in the areas, industry, and emerging trends of Corporate Security and/or Law Enforcement information management programs
  • Self-motivated operator with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced and dynamic setting
  • Bachelor's Degree desired with a degree in Criminal Justice, Security, or related field strongly preferred
