Overview: Manager, Communications: Global Merchant & Network Services
The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media, colleague communications, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The manager will be an integral member of the CA&C team supporting the American Express Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) division. GMNS is responsible for relationships with Amex-accepting businesses, as well as third party payment providers, strategic bank and fintech partners, prepaid products, and the company's global payments network.
The manager will focus primarily on supporting external communications around global network initiatives within GMNS. Core areas of focus will include:

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

Overview: Manager, Communications: Global Merchant & Network Services
The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media, colleague communications, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The manager will be an integral member of the CA&C team supporting the American Express Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) division. GMNS is responsible for relationships with Amex-accepting businesses, as well as third party payment providers, strategic bank and fintech partners, prepaid products, and the company's global payments network.
The manager will focus primarily on supporting external communications around global network initiatives within GMNS. Core areas of focus will include:
- American Express' partnerships with fintechs, banks and other third-party payment providers in the US and globally. This includes a heavy focus on partnerships with banks and other third-party institutions in the U.S. and 110+ countries globally that license the American Express brand, issue local American Express-branded cards in their countries, and/or acquire local merchants on the American Express Network.
- The capabilities and technologies that power the American Express Network, which enables secure and seamless payments by American Express Card Members and Merchants around the world.
- The manager will help uncover fresh and creative ways to story tell against these core areas of business externally, working closely with internal colleagues to promote communications initiatives across the enterprise. This role reports to the Director, Communications, GMNS, who is responsible for driving external communications for global network strategies.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Support the business goals of GMNS by creating and executing compelling external communications strategies and programs - with a particular focus on global network initiatives. Collaborate closely with colleagues to amplify external communications initiatives internally across the enterprise.
- Develop relationships with the media to promote GMNS advancements and executive perspectives.
- Deploy executive visibility strategies for senior business leaders within GMNS through earned/owned media coverage, speaking engagements and social channels.
- Support issues preparedness/management from end-to-end with senior oversight, working with colleagues across GMNS to draft reactive messaging and field incoming media requests.
- Collaborate with colleagues globally to ensure alignment of GMNS communications activities across the business.
- Monitor competitor and broader industry news and activities, including advancements in payments technology, infrastructure, and regulation, contextualizing news to senior business leaders as relevant.
- Lead and compile weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting documents to showcase communications results and highlights to key stakeholders across the business.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of public relations/communications experience, with proven ability to:
- Navigate the media and digital landscape, with experience securing coverage with reporters and influencers across a mix of channels (social, earned, owned, paid)
- Communicate/counsel senior executives with a high level of professionalism
- Learn and absorb technical subject matter and translate material into easy-to-understand communications messages.
- Help anticipate issues before they happen, taking a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Lead multiple priorities in a fast paced work environment
- Think independently, quickly, and apply good judgment
- Demonstrate a superior attention to detail, with ability to lead projects from end-to-end
- Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently, while operating as a great teammate, adaptable to diverse group of colleagues and clients across the globe.

- Experience in payments or technology industries
