Job Summary

Vertiv is hiring a Director, Project Management Office! The Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for setting up the PMO within the Global Services Business Unit, leading a team of 3 to 4 Project Managers, and managing a portfolio of large and highly complex projects within the Services Business Unit, ensuring alignment with business objectives and execution within scope, timeline, and budget constraints. This role provides strategic oversight, drives process improvements, and ensures risk mitigation across all projects.

This position will be based onsite in Westerville / Columbus, OH.

Responsibilities:
  • Establishing standard processes and methodologies for project management within the Business Unit, in alignment with the Vertiv Operations System (VOS).
  • Supervisory responsibility for a team of project managers, including their adherence to standard operating procedures, scheduling of projects, and performance management
  • Project Planning: Ensure all projects have robust project plans, timelines, and budgets by engaging cross-functional teams; challenge and optimize project plans and budgets while negotiating escalations with functional management.
  • Portfolio Execution: Lead and manage a portfolio of 5-10 projects (less than $10M OpEx investment) to successful completion.
  • Financial Accountability: Ensure OpEx and CapEx budget achievement and meet product cost targets across the project portfolio.
  • Risk Identification & Management: Guide risk strategies across the portfolio, proactively identifying and mitigating potential issues.
  • Escalation Management: Act as the central escalation point for the team, providing expert guidance and next steps to drive resolution.
  • Process Improvement: Drive best practices, process improvements, and innovation across the portfolio; lead organizational process improvement initiatives.
  • Resource Management: Optimize resource allocation at the departmental level to ensure efficiency and project success.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering discipline (or equivalent of education and experience).
  • 12+ years' experience of project management experience.
  • 5+ years' experience managing teams
  • Extensive experience working in a phase-gate New Product Development process for Products or Services.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or commitment to obtain, is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Six Sigma, LSS, or DFSS certification strongly preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of Phase-Gate NPDI processes and methodologies.
  • Ability to integrate engineering and production concepts and information with project management systems and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of business concepts and principles associated with project cost and forecasting including Earned Value, Baseline Change Control. Extensive knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes and procedures is key. Knowledge of accounting, purchasing, and ERP/MRP is critical.
  • Leadership capabilities that foster teamwork, accountability, and problem-solving across diverse, global teams.
  • This role drives programs with no direct authority. It is therefore essential to have good people skills and good communication skills, including running meetings and presentations.
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • 20% travel domestically and internationally as required, with participation in global meetings outside normal working hours.
